“Gorgeous view, clean motel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

Motel de la Mer is very conveniently located on Marine Parade in Napier. You can walk to everything in no more than 15-20 minutes and to several very good restaurants in about 5 minutes. This is good, because the parking lot at the motel is a little cramped. By walking, you won't have to repark your car later. Our room was one of the cleanest rooms I've ever had. The owners obviously care very much about the upkeep of their property. It is tastefully decorated and up-to-date. The owners were very knowledgeable and helpful with ideas for things to do in the area. The cooking facilities have restrictions: no fish, no spicy Asian food, due to the odors they create. There's a $10 fee to use the laundry facilities. The free internet is limited to 100 MB.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a second floor room (no elevator).

Pretty nice room with a large bed and sitting area, and a decent view of the ocean. About a 10 minute walk to town. A free amount of wi-fi data is included, enough to check your email and make some travel arrangements, if you use that up extra data is a steep 10 cents per megabyte. Parking is on-site but cramped. Note that Trip Advisor's default picture of the white Mediterranean style building is not this property, this property is the tan one with rows of windows that show up in the traveler's photos (not as nice looking as the default picture Trip Advisor shows). Overall not bad by any means but I'll probably look at other options next time.

We stayed 2 nights, being the 5 and 6th of September. We found the motel well appointed, clean with a comfortable bed, (which in my view, is the most important detail, when touring) and it also had a spa.
Being on Marine Parade, we had a lovely view of the ocean. Location was really convenient, being only10 min walk to restaurants, shops and bakeries.
John and Llanys were very helpful, suggesting we go to the RSA for a meal one night, where we had a delicious roast with lots of vegetables,(which I had been missing). Very well priced too at about $17. A couple of schools where celebrating their graduations there, so seeing we had not booked we were lucky to get in!
The other suggestion was to see Te Mater Peak and Havelock North, the first having some breath taking views, (as long as heights do not worry you), and the second being a great boutique stye village, both of which we would have missed if it had not been for John's friendly advice! Thank you to you both.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a full sea view.

We stayed here for 2 nights with 12 friends and family members. We were visiting Napier for a family event and wanted good quality accommodation within easy walking distance of the shops and waterfront. This ticked all the boxes. Spacious well appointed units, very clean and well serviced, noise proofed against the traffic noise from the reasonably busy road out front, and friendly and helpful proprietors. We were able to walk to the shops, restaurants, museum, acquarium and along the attractively landscaped waterfront walkway. We all very much enjoyed our stay.

This motel ticked most of the boxes we like in accommodation:
It was quiet, had free wifi, it was clean and well-equipped. It was opposite the ocean on Marine Parade and only 10 minute walk to town. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Overall, a good place to stay.

Stayed overnight during a trip around NZ. The room we stayed in included a spa bath (easily big enough for two people comfortably). Room price was not much more than others in the area without the spa so we thought why not. In walking distance to aquarium and directly opposite the beach. Highly recommended! Proprietor was keen to give is some ideas of what to do during our brief stay.
