This was our second visit to McHardy Lodge and it did not disappoint. John and Judie are the perfect hosts. Unobtrusive, but always there when you need them, and nothing is every too much trouble. The house is lovely and the views spectacular. A great place to get away from it all for the weekend.

We stayed two nights there on our final leg of our honeymoon. The place is simply amazing - very grand and elegant, and the hosts were welcoming and informative about Napier, without being too intrusive in any way. We were given a free upgrade since it was our honeymoon. Breakfast was offered at the time we requested, and we were given a menu to choose from.

We had 2 days of "feeling at home" in a foreign land, the house is elegant and John and Judy offer warm hospitality in a sensitive manner. Their recommendations for things to do were ideally suited for all our interests. We also enjoyed a lovely meal which included ingredients from their garden. Free WIFI and Snooker, library and verandah with views. Very relaxing.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at this beautiful house which has excellent views of Napier bay during our recent visit to New Zealand. It is very spacious with an outdoor swiming pool and full size billiards table. The bedroom was huge and very comfortable with coffe / tea making facilities, a fridge and large bathroom. Our hosts, John and Judy, were very friendly and full of ideas and information. We were made to feel part of the family and John even drove us into Napier one evening to save a taxi fare! Breakfast was freshly prepared and served in their delightful and large kitchen / dining room that had excellent views of the bay.
It may seem a little pricey for a B&B but it is a special treat.

John and Judy were very welcoming and helpful. Great amenities in a relaxed atmosphere. A bit of a trek to some of the restaurants but John always offered a lift.

We stayed at McHardy Lodge on NYE 2009 and the experience was delightful. The lodge is beautiful - the pictures online don't do it justice.

We got such a warm welcome from the couple managing the lodge - tea and freshly baked cakes.
Breakfast was also fantastic.

They made us feel very welcome.

The rooms are fantastic - worth the money and the view from most rooms and from the verandah is superb!

A beautiful house, with views over Hawkes Bay that has been made very welcoming by John and Judy who now run it. The accommodation was extremely comfortable, everything was available - even two sets of bathrobes (one for use at the heated swimming pool). We sat at breakfast taking in the panoramic views and wondering what the weather would do (it stayed sunny, despite early clouds) and enjoyed John's very good coffee, the delicious variety of fruits, greek yoghurt, hot cross buns, and lots of other things that Judy had prepared. We stayed for 4 nights and each evening there were canapes and drinks at sunset if we wanted to join the other guests before we went out for dinner. Our hosts recommended some great local restaurants and John even drove us himself one evening - it's quite a steep walk down into Napier, but good exercise. The town itself is really interesting with great shops, historic buildings, street cafes, boutiques, a fascinating museum, and it also has the National Aquarium which is certainly worth a visit, if only to get a good view of kiwis in semi-darkness - much better than the kiwi house at Rotorua. A drive out to Craggy Range winery and the surrounding hills gave us spectacular scenery as well as a superb lunch, while Napier itself was a really relaxing town to hang out, enjoy the art deco and contemplate the power of earthquakes. McHardy Lodge is a lovely place to stay and John and Judy are really kind and thoughtful - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend spending a few days here.
