We stayed at McHardy Lodge during an extensive driving trip through New Zealand. The old house was wonderfully restored & the rooms were gorgeous. Breakfast would almost get you to an early dinner in a lovely setting overlooking the bay. Our host Yvonne was very helpful & very accommodating to some personal needs. Lovely, restful spot after a day of touring.

This was our fifteenth hotel/B&B on a ten week tour of Australia and New Zealand and it was the best of some fabulous B&Bs. The term B&B underrates this great little hotel. Yvonne the owner was on hand to ensure that our stay was perfect and perfect it was. The house has been sensitively restored with all modern amenities. It is also in a great location over looking Hawkes Bay and less than 5 minutes by car from the centre of Napier. The bedrooms are nicely decorated and a number have sea views. Breakfasts are brilliant and I can definitely recommend the pancakes with banana and maple syrup.
We would definitely McHardy lodge to anyone who looking for accommodation in Napier.

My wife and I enjoyed our six days stay at McHardy Lodge so much so we have booked ourselves for next year's Art Deco festival.
The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was way too much for us, but we noticed some of the guests really got stuck into it.
Yvonne is a delightfull hostess.

It was a delight having you to stay at the Lodge -you both really entered into the spirit of the Art Deco long weekend with your lovely outfits. As you discovered Napier is such a fun place to be each February when the whole town ( and hundreds of tourists!) get dressed up and enjoy the many events, concerts, live jazz on Marine Parade - it is like being transported in a time machine to the 1930s. Cant wait to welcome you again next year !

We spent our wedding weekend at McHardy Lodge this February 2012. It is one of the most memorable places you could ever stay at. We loved every second we were there. The house is beautiful, comfortable and luxurious. The hospitality is even better. We felt like absolute royalty. I was able to have the most exquisite pre-wedding photographs taken at the house. We look forward to enjoying more time at McHardy Lodge for future getaways! This place is a must see!!! Don't miss out! :) :) :) :) :)

Thanks Yvonne!!!

Thanks so much for all the compliments ! You were a stunning bride and your bridesmaids looked equally fantastic - we were just pleased to be able to make the day of the wedding that bit more memorable and the house is a beautiful backdrop for those extra special pre wedding pictures. We look forward very much to seeing you and your friends in the future.

We stayed in Napier as part of our travels through North Island late last year and McHardy Lodge was the best place we stayed – it has it all – a beautiful old colonial style home with beautiful rooms and facilities – we loved the billiard room with the massive log fire. Breakfasts were to die for (not for those on a diet – too much temptation! ) and the views of the Ocean and Ranges from the dining room were spectacular, we could have sat there all day. Yvonne arranged several excursions for us so we got the best from our stay – she couldn’t have been more helpful . We didn’t realise Napier had so much to see and do and McHardy Lodge is really central when you want to visit the restaurants in the evening. We will definitely be back to visit this lovely city and McHardy Lodge will definitely be where we will stay. A great find!

The old maternity hospital, converted but not altered, colonial in appearance with verandahs about and such a fun place to stay. The rooms can only be said to be spacious and are superbly fitted out and what with a library and billiard room (full size ) ,after you have spent a long time over breakfast gazing over Hawkes Bay from the kitchen, there is no need to go out! In fact we ended up joining Yvonne doing a bit of gardening one lovely afternoon because we felt we just wanted to be part of the place. Well done Yvonne for providing such a marvellous stay.

You will never forget staying here. It is not just the house which is just amazing in quality and history, not even the views right over the bay or the quality of the accomodation. It is the way in which Yvonne makes you welcome which is so hospitable and accomodating that it sets a standard most others could only aspire to. But the house itself has to be seen, it really brings the history of settlement in these islands into focus and gives a flavour of what the early British arrivals (mainly Scots in this area?) did for themselves and the old world they left behind. The cemetary just round the corner and the botanic gardens are well worth a visit.

Thank you so much for your kind comments about the service and McHardy Lodge - it is a very special place and we love sharing it with everyone who stays. The botanical gardens which are at the end of the road really show the native trees at their best and it's a great walk before breakfast!
