“A quiet night”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

Even though the Deco City Motel is on the main road the heavy drapes and the absence of traffic (Napier goes to sleep after ten o'clock on a week night) meant that I had a great night's sleep. Breakfast was on time and good value.

This has been my home away from home since Clint and Robyn opened 15 years ago.
Great place to stay, clean, modern and friendly. Sorry, had to rate fitness centre but they do not have one. Have also taken my family here while away for business and they love it too.
You wont regret staying here.

Deco City Motor Lodge was a great base for exploring the Hawke's Bay. Our unit was immaculate and really nicely decorated. A mix of modern and art deco. I had a portacot in my bedroom with me, and there was still lots of space. The lounge and other bedroom were a good size. No noise bleed from neighbouring rooms either, which is a plus.

The bathroom had one of the best showers I've ever experienced at a motel/hotel.

The motel is located about 5 mins drive from the central city, and has easy access to the expressway. This might be a downside for some, but great for us. Particularly as it meant for a quiet night, and my 7 month old could sleep well.

Friendly and helpful service too.

Totally recommend to a family or someone wanting reasonably priced, quiet and comfortable accommodation.

One tip though - open windows when cooking in the unit as the smoke detectors are very sensitive, and go off in every room when triggered.

Staying with Clinton and Robyn at their Deco City Motor Lodge in Sunny Napier is an experience not to be missed. They make you feel welcome as though part of the family. The two bedroom unit was large and airy. We could not fault the cleanliness of the bathroom or the rest of the unit; everything was to the highest standard, as was to be expected for this class of motel.
Families are well catered for with a play area and safe swimming pool for the children.
The friendly hosts have all the information on local activates, if Clinton doesn’t know it, it’s not worth knowing. They recommended a Thai restaurant (Thai Chef) just up the road for dinner, excellent choose, very enjoyable.
Would definitely recommend Deco City for its modern, friendly, warm and inviting atmosphere, and will be back.

Stayed at the motel with a group of friends. The Host went out of their way to move rooms around so we could all be by each other. Stayed in a 2 bedroom suite. The unit was large and spacious. The bedrooms were huge and the beds comfortable.
The lounge contained a three seater sofa bed and a two seater sofa bed. Plenty of sleeping space for everyone. The unit itself was very clean and tidy.
I liked the fact that when you checked in you got the choice of the type of milk you would like. Our unit had a full sized fridge/freezer which was awesome. Dont usually get them in motel rooms.
The motel unit was very close to the function we were attending but its not that close to town.
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. Will definitely stay there again.
Only thing I would change would to be to put two queen beds in the 2 bedroom units. The rooms are so spacious that there would be enough room to have a queen and single in each room.

We stayed here for one night and the woman at reception was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, the bed comfy and the spa bath a lovely treat. It's not idea for walking around as it's not in the heart of restaurants and such, but if you have a car I would certainly recommend staying here.

We visited Napier for the 2013 Art Deco weekend and stayed here. Despite the hotel being full which is understandable given the weekend is so popular, The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a good time and had all we needed to enjoy the stay. This extended to making absolutely sure that everyone always had a car parking space at this very busy time.
The motel is some 5 mins by car to the centre of Napier but this presented no problem and the area in the near vicinty provided an excellent Thai restaurant (Thai Chef) a fish and chip shop serving delicious fish and chips as well as a good variety of alternatives and a good supermarket providing everything you would need to self cater; the facilities in the room provided all that was needed in this regard. Everything was well maintained.
All in all highly recommended.
