“Highly Recommended in Napier”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

We only stayed one night, but absolutely loved this B &B, from the warm friendly greeting, to the delightful bedroom, looking out over the ocean, to the helpful advice on where to dine, to the sensational breakfast, great conversation, and cheery farewell! A must-stay-at-when -visiting-Napier!

Room Tip: Room with a sea view and balcony is a must!

the "Mon Logis" is the best B&B where I had have been in my 6 weeks of holiday in New Zealand. And I have been on the North and South Island. The breakfast is more than amazing!! fresh fruit, fantastic omlettes and the best coffee in NZ!!!!! a good coffee is really hard to get in NZ!! the rooms are beautiful and very charming. I had had a great few! in the guest lounge has been always orange-juice, coffee, tea, milk and water for free. I can only recommend to everybody who is in the near of Napier to spend some nights in the "Mon Logis"

Room Tip: I had the room "pineview" - sea/ocean-view with a balcony!

we stayed for 2 nights and were made to feel so welcome by Gerard, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast is fantastic - wonderful omelette full of sumpious fillings of our choice, beautifully cooked. Coming after croissants, cereal, yoghurt and fresh fruit - no lunch necessary after this. Gerard is the perfect host, full of Gallic charm and making sure the guests are well looked after. The rooms are superb we had great views over the ocean in the our room. But all the rooms are very neat and tidy.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are to be recommended

We stayed 3 nights and had a wonderful time. Gerard's breakfasts are superb and massive - we never needed lunch! He is a wonderfully welcoming host, and offered us the chance to move to a sea view room when one came free after our first night. Book the sea view if you can - it's a great view and you get the use of the balcony to sit out. Tea, coffee and cookies are available at all times in one of the 2 guest lounges.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at Mon Logis, including New Years. The location was good and the room was nice but our host, Gerard, made the visit special. We left early, before breakfast was served, on two mornings to play golf. Without being asked, he made sure we had fresh croissants, fruit and a drink to eat on the way. The breakfast served on the day we were able to join Gerard and the other guests, was excellent and the conversation engaging.

My husband and I stayed here in October this year and it was just splendid. The rooms were decorated beautifully. The view was lovely also. Our stay in Napier was made complete by staying at Mon Logis. A big thank you to our cheerful, attentive and generous host, Gerard. He makes a very authentic crossaint. We would definitely love to stay again one day.

We absolutely loved Napier for its sea front and fabulous buildings. On the sea front is the very attractive Mon Logis, a survivor of the earthquake that brought about the Art Deco architecture in the town centre. ML is owned by Gerard, a lovable bear of a Frenchman with a great sense of humour, who provides all sorts of things in the guest lounge. Our room was a tad basic but totally in keeping with the building and with a glorious balcony and outlook over the bay. Gerard provides perhaps the best breakfast we've ever had on our travels. We reckon that Mon Logis was one of the highlights of our three weeks in North Island.

Room Tip: One of the balcony rooms.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Mon Logis Luxury Bed & Breakfast Marine Parade Napier, New Zealand. A little Piece of France nestled in the heart of the beautiful wine growing region of Hawke's Bay. Originally built as an English Terrace house in the 1860's, this colonial Building was extended into a private hotel. Only a few minutes walk to the city centre, this grand two story colonial villa overlooking the Pacific ocean has a fascinating history as a private hotel since the early 1900's. Mon Logis is one of the building who survive the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. In 1991, it became Mon Logis, meaning "My Dwelling." Now lovingly renovated, Mon Logis will cater to a maximum of eight guests and is modeled on the small privately owned French hotel. Charming personal service and French cuisine are the specialties. Of the upstairs individually furnished rooms, two have queen size beds and two have twin beds and all have their own private facilities. Owner Frenchman Gerard decorated each guest room differently but in a style in keeping with the original charm of the building. Iron bedsteads, feather duvets, lace covers and fine cotton linen all create a special elegance and one room is totally furnished with pieces bought from France. Downstairs an informal guest lounge invites relaxation, television viewing, a quiet time reading or perhaps a game of chess or bridge. Guests can help themselves to coffee or tea and biscuits any time of the day. Breakfast, served in the privacy of your own room or downstairs dining room, could be a basket of freshly baked continental breads, croissants and brioche with a compote of locally grown fruits or a wonderful herb omelette, crispy bacon and grilled tomatoes. Whichever is chosen certainly promises to be a most memorable meal. However, should the choice be made to dine out, Gerard is happy to give recommendations and as guide competent in giving an insight into Napier's unique architecture. All perfectly designed for comfort and relaxation, Mon Logis is a non smoking establishment and does not cater for children. French and Spanish are spoken; exclusive customised vineyard tour with host by arrangement. " Mon Logis is casual elegance at a price you can afford." ... more   less
