We stayed over the new year period and found the motel a lovely place to enjoy our family holiday. The managers were very helpful and pleasant making for a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. Great location just off marine parade provided a nice quiet motel. Swimming pool wss great. Tidy and comfortable units. Will definitely be back when we are next in napier. Thanks.

Stayed in Unit 5 3N while cycling the Hawkes Bay trails. Agree with other reviews re cleanliness which needs improving. Bed was very comfortable and the unit was newly carpeted and painted. Bathroom just too small and shower size is claustrophobic. Towels are old. Lots of flies so hopefully there is now fly spray in the rooms. It was good to be offered lemons from the tree and parsley in the garden. Don't think we will stay here again as it's a competitive business for motel owners and cleanliness is paramount.

Booked Unit 5 online direct with the motel but we were directed to Unit 6. The unit was a small studio but with separate full kitchen (stove and microwave), a king size bed that dominated the room, small wall-mountedLCD TV and iron/ironing board. Storage space was tight. The shower box and toilet cubicle were very small. The motel has plenty of lawn space including a small pool, BBQ area and childrens' swings. There were several aspects of our stay that disappointed us. Firstly on a value for money scale McLean Park Garden Motel wasn't a patch on Chevron Motel in Taupo where we stayed before coming to Napier (see separate review). Our unit at Chevron was twice the size, modern and spacious and included free WiFi (McLean Park charges $3 for an hour and $8 per day) and was a little cheaper. Secondly the stove was a safety hazard - you could not open the oven door fully because it was blocked by the door frame to the unit which made it dangerous when removing hot items. Thirdly the toilet bowl was marked with what I thought were permanent stains but a quick flick with the toilet brush revealed this wasn't so. The outdoor table and chairs that are provided for each unit also needed a wipe before being used. The light fittings in the roof were full of dirt, the fridge leaked and the kitchen sink plug was too small resulting in water loss when doing the dishes. The little ledges in the bathroom also could have been cleaner. Fourthly a guest laundry was available ($4 a wash and $4 for the dryer but washing lines available also) and it was disconcerting to see a Countdown supermarket trolley being used to transport washing between the laundry and the clotheslines. On the positive side the bed was comfortable and the motel was only a minutes walk from Marine Parade and the coast. On checking in the manager did mention they had only been managing the motel for a month so hopefully plans are in place to attend its shortcomings and take a more proactive approach to cleanliness. As it stands I would not recommend this motel.

My husband and I spent 6 days in Napier and chose McLean Park Garden Motel because we did not want to stay on a main road. During our stay we heard no traffic noise and the infrequent trains did not bother us, we could hardly hear them. The motel was handy when we needed to drive to supermarkets and a medical clinic. Other times we walked to the shore and into the city centre. I am unable to walk long distances, but the walk along the shore had plenty of places to sit. The managers were very helpful in giving us advice of where to go and what to see and they also had a lot of tourist information available in the reception area. Our unit was an older one but looked out to a grassy lawn. I can't comment on the garden because work was being done, but being offered fruit from the trees was a pleasant bonus. We would certainly stay here if/when we return to Napier.

The most comfortable king size bed we have slept in in a motel the carpet & furnishings new, the manager one of the most helpful. The owner needs to finish his updating of all the units. the kitchen was OK but the bathroom needed attention ASAP. We are both tall & did not like having our knees touching the wall while sitting on the toilet & hardly any room in the cubicle to stand up!!!

Room Tip: Ask about the bathroom in your room

My husband and I traveled from Auckland to attend a church conference in Napier, and we booked McLean Park Garden Motel for 4 nights. The deal we got was worthwhile. It was like a place away from home with such a quite environment. The apartment we were in was up to our standard. We really appreciated our stay there and want to say a big thank you to Wayne and Kathy for their hospitality. We are surely coming down again next year :) God Bless
