This is a great area for families the kiddies play ground has extended and is suitable for children of all ages. There is an amazing bike track complete with traffic lights and roundabout excellent for bikes and scooters. Also they have sun shades along the walkway with free b b q's available for the public. A very enjoyable way to spend a day in the sun

We were especially impressed with the kids play area, in particular the roads complete with traffic lights and road markings. A beautiful beach front location...love it!!

“Fantastic Napier”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Cycling along Marine Parade every morning was a fantastic experience. there are plenty of seats to stop and watch the world go by. The gardens are very well kept. Everyone is so helpful and
friendly. The weather was fantastic when I was there, February, and 25c most days. The town itself is great to look at, the architecture and the interesting Art Deco shops. I'm going there again this year, my 3rd visit.

“A Little Bit of History!”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

I love the way Napier displays their Art Deco history along Marine Parade and throughout the town. Learning of the story about the German U-Boats being off-shore during a Napier Open Air dance was amazing!

“Deco, artistic beauty and the hills becon like beacons”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

We did the twilight walk, organized by Napier Council, led by a volunteer, for free. We started from the marine side, the city's well-kept uniformity of style makes it an exceptional place to walk.
The guide began her discourse explaining that we should reserve our gaze for the upper stories. This is where this unique aspect of art deco gone mad. Its a flat walk through the district, concentrated between Emerson,Herscell,Dalton and Browning streets,is a stylistic immersion. The decorative elements, above the ground floor are impressive and offer such a variety of geometric styling.
In fact we strayed onto the main road several times due to the fact that we kept our eyes riveted to the glory of art deco. I am glad Napier went mad for art deco with its bold, geometric style that had such a surviving influence on the global scene since 1925. Now, where ever we are ,we recognize the art deco moniker.
This was a brilliant tour.....with the following buildings a stand-out: ..... ASB bank.....the Maori theme on the lintels is the country's finest example of rafter patterns decorating a European building. The traditional red, white & black patterns continues inside around a coffered ceiling.
.........Daily Telegraph Building....a Napier classic, has all the elements of art deco, zig zags, fountain shapes, ziggurats and a sunburst.
.........Dalton Street........the pink bank with its balcony,a masterpiece with its frieze and wavy lines in the middle symbolizing the sea between the 2 countries, NZ and Germany.
..........Rothmans building.......One of the finest,1932 structures with stained glass windows and a magnificent glass dome over the entrance hall .
Check out the fruit stands outside town, nestled in the breastlike hillocks are remarkable. Its great cycling territory and great eating, with superb lodgings
Truly memorable place .
