It was the highlight of our visit to the charming town of Napier. Within minutes of our ship putting in to port, the local bus whisked us down the shore to the modern and well laid-out aquarium. There's a surprising variety of displays; from live corals to penguins. Take time to read about the remarkable lay missionary and amateur botanist, Wm Colenco, who observed and cataloged the area's sea and land creatures almost 170 ago, before the influx of European settlers. And don't miss the excellent kiwi exhibit. You might get lucky as we did and meet the kiwi keeper and hear his talk on all things kiwi--including the chance to see a kiwi egg!
