“Cool place!”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

This place was great, even us adults found it really interesting and spent a lot of time looking aorund here. We are from Auckland, and are used to the very expensive Kelly Tarltons, well The Napier National Aquarium was under half the price of Kelly Tarltins, and waaay more interesting. It was great!

“A bit expensive but interesting”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

The feeding was nothing special and the sharks not as large and scary as I'd hoped but the turtle was cool. I missed the Piranhas too! Kids thought it was pretty average so probably not worth the $54 we paid to go.

“A fantastic national attraction in the heart of napier”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Staying close by, it's seemed logical, on a cloudy day, to visit something inside. So a quick walk across the road and into the acclaimed national aquarium of New Zealand. At $20 per adult you expect something good and we weren't disappointed. Walking through the dinosaur area with informative video and also an area to watch archaeologists carefully restoring fossilized dinosaur bones we also got to see NZ's living dinosaur, the Tuatara, On to various aquariums of both New Zealand and overseas fish, split up into various regions of the world, then the various areas of New Zealand marine life. Each area is well labelled and there are many messages about conservation and ecological safety to inform the many people, from all over the world, of all ages, attending. My partner loved the beautifully appointed kiwi enclosure and we could clearly see them at home in their natural environment, before we moved on to see the little blue penguins being fed while their handler explained while they were there (many from dog attacks, many from being tangled in nylon from fishing lines) and what was being done to recuperate them. Finally a wander under the main aquarium to watch the divers feeding the fish, including sharks and a rather over amorous sting ray. A fascinating time and actually worth another trip around, and so we did!!! Well worth the money and a great educational and enjoyable visit for the whole family
