We had a perfect weekend at the County Hotel. We found the staff to be warm yet professional. The decor of the room was elegant, perfectly maintained and clean. There was no unwanted noise. And we really enjoyed the location. We didn't need to drive anywhere - cafes, good coffee, restaurants and a nice wine/cold beer were all within a 2 min walk.

We stayed at The County Hotel over Labour Weekend to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The room was large and spacious, the meals were excellent, and the staff very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is in the middle of Napier so very handy to shops, restaurants, bars and the sea. One of the best hotel stays we have ever had! We'll definitely return!

We stayed for one night after the Melbourne Cup and the owner was let down by last minute staff sickness so he had to step up and single handedly run the Champagne bar for 2 hours when busy.
We had a great time and we're made to feel very welcome, trying wines and sparkling wines before committing to buying them.
The food was wonderful. The highlight of the night was the whole evening of socialising with other guests and the owners. A definite yes to booking again if we are ever in town.
Cheers Christopher for a memorable night. Rob and Nikki.

My 17 year old son and I had our first experience of the County hotel on a one night stay at Labour weekend when Napier is pretty much booked out. The hotel is about as central as possible in Napier being two minutes from the sea, shops and many other things. Our room was clean and well appointed and everything worked, the style was classical in keeping with the whole hotel. Nice touches were the library with complimentary port and free use of a computer and internet. Breakfast was part of our package and was very good. The service from the owners and staff was at all times pleasant and they all went the extra mile to make our stay a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended

We stayed at The County Hotel making a list minute booking the night before arrival due to our flights to another weekend r & r destination having been cancelled due to weather. We arrived earlier than the prescribed time, but our room was ready and we were show up promptly. The room was on the smaller side, but perfectly formed and more than adequate for our 2 night stay mental health break. Only grip was that we couldn't seem to log into wifi and we had to ask for a remote for the television. The library was great relax in, flick thru books over a complimentary Port. We did not try the main restaurant for dinner instead snacking at the Snug. The 2nd night our snack/meals took a while to come, but we were offered complimentary drinks and profuse apologies Breakfast which was part of our "deal" was fine, although few items noted in the continental breakfast blurb were missing. The staff were only too obliging and could not do too much to assist. Would definitely stay there again.

Good size room and plenty of charm to this hotel. Well priced for what is on offer.

Keen on all things art deco we were looking forward to staying at the County Hotel Napier. The lacklustre Reception area itself should have warned us to beware. When we walked in off the street to enquire for a room for a few nights, we were "told" that we should have booked as they were rather busy. We thought a suite was rather pricey, especially during the off-peak period, but we were very tired and looking forward to a little pampering so we took it. The room we were offered was on the top floor and it certainly was not something we would consider to be classified as a suite. The room's furnishings were not our idea of real art deco - as the room presented more an 1960s beach hotel accommodation, with unstylish replica décor and awkward corners to get around in.
The Dining Room was cold, bare pokey and with unset tables it was quite uninviting - giving an impression that the food would match the décor - so we decided to eat out and cut our stay to only 2 days. Fortunately there were some excellent restaurants to be found nearby.
The room was cold and noisy and we were kept awake through most of the night much due to the occupants in the room next door allowing us to hear their arguments and lovemaking - all adding that touch of "old seedy hotel needing a thorough refurbishing". The next morning we had wished we had not locked ourselves in to the 2 nights and then when we took a walk around the 1st floor we found unoccupied suites which were not too bad! One couple showed us the suite they were occupying and told us the price - which was the same as we were charged. Feeling quite ripped off we were glad to check out the next day - with no tip. Overall impression was that the hotel should be renamed Faulty Towers
