“Excellent stay- good value!”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

We stayed here one night and enjoyed our stay. The best part of the rooms is the view overlooking the sea-stunning! The beach is not safe for swimming but it is beatiful to look out over and we enjoyed opening the big window and listenting to the surf. We also woke up early to catch the sunrise- beatuiful!

Service was excellent at check-in and check out. The hotel is more basic but meets all of your needs. It is also centrally located which makes it ideal for walking and checking out town. I did not find the bed to be the most comfortable but it was okay. I wish they could get beds like those down at the Scenic in Franz Joseph.

There is free car parking in the back.

Expectations do not get very high when staying in "city" hotels outside major cities. I was pleasantly surprised by the Te Pania, first impressions were driven by a warm welcome and the perception of a very clean hotel. The room was fine, outlook over the beach wonderful, and given the size of Napier, it was naturally well located and convenient to most of the city. As far as F&B is concerned, I only had a light breakfast so could not provide am opinion with any confidence; the breakfast was fair.

The hotel is very well, if not best located in centre of town. Seemed older than 10-11 years I thought I saw indicated but was clean and staff were pretty good. Is on busy road but this stopped at night, but had other noise problems (see Room tips).

Room Tip: Don't take a room on the 2nd (or maybe 1st (ground) floor. Our night's sleep was badly distu...

Stayed at the Scenic Napier for five nights in March. A two minute walk to Art Deco Napier, this hotel has a very pleasant and comfortable ambiance. Each well appointed room has a sea view which allows you to watch the sunrise over the ocean. The staff are most friendly and helpful. The dining room is simple but most adequate and breakfast is plentiful. If you have a vehicle with you the hotel has its own car park at the rear of the hotel. It is a short drive to the Mission Estate which is a must to visit and to nearby Tarradale. Would stay at the Scenic again.

Room Tip: Whilst all rooms have a sea view fourth floor and above puts you that little higher above passing tr...

All rooms in this hotel have a great view of the ocean/sea front. The hotel is modern and our room was well appointed with a large picture window of the seafront/ocean. Plenty of free car parking at the back of the hotel.

The lounge/bar is small and comfortable. The restaurant doubles as the breakfast room and looks out on the main coast road. The breakfast was very good as was the service.

A very pleasant hotel.

This 2nd time we have stayed here and have already booked for the next year's Mission Estate Concert whatever it is.

Relatively easy drive on ever improving roads from Wellington.

One can usually, rely on Napier turning on fine weather and even last year's brief showers didn't turn people off because even when it rains it's still warm.

the hotel itself is well located right on the sea front, and despite having full air-conditioning caters to the likes of my wife and I by having huge opening (sliding windows) that can be opened to allow the sea breezes to waft into one's room, especially during the warm early autumn evenings. Fresh air and none of that awful background air-conditioning noise that most (new zealanders) are not used to all night.

We have eaten here on previous visits and found the food good but this visit we ate out both nights. My understanding the food hasn't changed and is still very good but a quick glance at the menu confirmed that the prices are in the usual upper end as with most hotels.

Staff were very welcoming upon arrival. They had held the room for use until after 6pm although we had made arrangements for late arrival which is recommended after 5.30pm.

We unloaded our own bags, parked the car and used the porter trolley to take our bags to the room.

Upon checking the room we found no hand soaps, but an array of usual hotel toiletries.

Unfortunately, there were no bathrobes and I am pretty sure these were in the room last year, and would normally be expected at 275.00 a night. None the less the bathrooms and facilities were all clean and very well presented.

As we were off to the Mission for dinner, we didn't have dinner. The reception staff (immediately?) provided soap when my wife mentioned that the room was without any. I returned it to them as I didn't wish to arrive at the Mission for dinner with two bars of soap!! The arranged for a Taxi (combined Taxis) and within minutes it arrived.

Upon returning to the room checked to see if the soap had been put into the rooms or if bath robes had arrived. Neither was there. I returned to the Reception and was promptly provided with the two bars of soap again.

The rest of the stay was uneventful and the hotel was quiet, and most restful. Despite putting out the "Room Available for service" and the house attendant working in the adjoining room when we went out at 9.30 am the room still hadn't been made up at 1.00 pm when we returned. I quite understand the priority Housekeeping gives to checkouts rather than stopovers but we thought that, along with the other housekeeping "woes" although minor, the housekeeping a little disappointing. That has dropped our Service rating a little this year.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are outside sea front facing. The higher floor rooms seem to have less street nois...

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the Hotel. I do apologise about the lack of bathrobes..I have been assured by our purchasing department that they have been ordered but will not be arriving until June- not that this helps you. But I can assure you that when you next stay you will be further comforted by luxurious bathrobes.
I am delighted that you enjoyed your time at Te Pania and we do look forward to welcoming you back for the next Mission concert.
