“Delightful discovery”

This is an exceptional restaurant and we loved it. The freshness of the ingredients, the mind-blowing flavours, the originality of the menu, the value for money and the quality and price of the excellent wine list just amazed us. We were in a hurry and they bent over backwards to bring our meals on time. We both loved the rabbit parfait wrapped in a peach shell, thought the Monkfish the best we had ever tasted - so fresh and so tender and moist, and we drooled over the desserts. The food is brilliant - not over dressed but done with a light hand and enormous complexity of fresh flavours. Makes me want to live in Napier!

“Wonderful restaurant. Oustanding food and friendly ambience”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

We are foodies from the UK and were passing through Napier on our 5 week NZ car tour staying for just one night at the Scenic Hotel. We make it a rule never to eat in hotels as you get a much better feel for a place, much better food and a proper evening out if you eat in a local restaurant.
Having walked around Napier we were a bit stumped untill we walked past Mint. It looked charming and the menu was interesting. We booked for 7.30 and when we arrived (on a friday in March) it was about half full but with enogh people to make it feel busy. The service, the decor and the wines were excellent (the Trinity merlot was delicious). The food was quite simply superb. My duck confit was both succulent and flavoursome and was served with a duck. pork and wild mushroom sausage over lentils and vegetables. My wife had the fresh Monkfish (catch of the day) which she said was the freshest she had ever had...and she is a fish eater.
Overall I would say this is one of the best meals we have had in 5 weeks eating out every night in New Zealand and would absolutely recommend it to anyone interested in food wanting a good meal in Napier.Starters $18 mains about $33 so a little above average but the quality and total experience is way, way above the price. Many thanks for a lovely evening.

“A very good restaurant”

The Mint has a very good cuisine. It is a bit like French. The service is good as well and also the ambiance is very fine.
The price is not the cheapest though.

“Great lunch”
Reviewed February 16, 2013 via mobile

We turned up for lunch after 3pm! We expected the kitchen to be closed, as it indeed were.
However, they opened the kitchen for us and the six of us really enjoyed to food and the wine.
We were disappointed that te restaurant was not open on the Sunday of the Art Deco weekend.
We would have come back.
Maybe next year.
