Michael told us he would meet us at the dock where we come down the gangway. My girlfriend and I were a bit skeptical as we heard from the ship that you needed to take a shuttle into town. But sure enough, there was Michael right off the gangway with our names on a sign. He told us that he wasn't sure if he was going to continue past this season to be able to keep coming to the dock, but let met tell you it was nice to be able to skip the whole shuttle bus tour. The tour was $90 for a half day tour and we were the only ones signed up for the day. He can have as many as 6 in his van.

Our ship docked at Noon so we had eaten prior to getting off the ship. We headed into town where we went to the beach and he gave us history about why the retaining wall was so much far away from the water and we saw a mermaid statue.

Then he took us through town showing us various Art Deco buildings and giving us the history of them. We went into a beautiful old theater that had much of the original decor from the 1930's. We also went to the Mission Estate Winery (tasting was included) and had several pours. I bought a bottle of their Merlot. The Mission is beautiful and we were able to walk around the grounds. One advantage of being on a private tour is that you get to be places without 50+ people running around. The Princess bus was pulling up just as we were leaving.

He told us about his wife's pottery shop so we went there and she designs the most beautiful pottery. I bought a plate that had a detailed hand-painted picture of the Mission Estate that we had just left. We also went up to a couple of vista points that overlooked the beautiful area. We even saw a couple of ostriches.

We enjoyed Michael very much and would recommend him highly!

Michael met us at the dock as promised. There was only one other couple on this tour. We started by going to the waterfront in the middle of the city where Michael gave us a historic background talk while showing several of the pertinent sites key to Napier's history.

We wound our way through this lovely town while getting a continuous running commentary from Michael. He parked at one point and we walked along the street while he pointed out several buildings of historical significance. Because of his history with the town and his good relations with many of the caretakers and docents, we were able to get into the oldest theatre in New Zealand. Magnificent!

After our city tour, Michael took us to a delightful place just outside the city, Rose's Garden, where we had a light lunch. We then proceeded to the wine country. Our first stop was Church Road Winery. This was a boutique winery and we had a very nice tasting with a lady who went throug some of the history of wine growing in the region. We then proceeded to Moana Park Winery, another boutique winery. Both stops were great finds for a couple of wine geeks like us.

The highlight of the tour was a trip to the very top of Te Mata Peak. Breathtaking views for 360 degrees. Also breathtaking ride to the top and back down!

Michael is very knowledgable, friendly, and pleasant. He knows his history and his wine. We highly recommend this tour for anyone who has only one day in Napier.

Saw this in a brochure the day before we went to Napier and then we drove into Napier and who should we see on the side of the road, Vic with his ubute trike. We decided to go for a ride straight away. It was fun and the perfect way to see Napier. I totally recommend supertrike tours, if your in Napier just do it!

My husband and I booked a tour with Mike after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed. Mike met us in his van at the dock and first took us to the beach to explain the earthquake that devastated the area in the 1930s. He then took us on a city tour contrasting the old architecture with the newer Art Deco, a highlight of which was a visit to the beautiful local theater. From there the day just got better. We toured two wineries, both of which had generous samples, a brewery, a chocolate factory, went to the top of Te Mata, and back through the older section of Napier. Mike was an excellent host, answering questions along the way, and always stopping at wonderful photo stops. I highly recommend this tour with the caveat that Mike is looking to sell his business. He will continue his tours until May. So act quickly if you want to experience this great tour.
