I don't normally write reviews but our stay at the Fern Motel in Napier was so spectacular I just had to :)

I stayed in the Fern Motel in Napier for three weeks this year. I have travelled widely with my family and have stayed in all sorts of hotels and motels. I have to say that the Fern Motel was up there near the very top. It has definitely been the best Motel by a long way for a number of different reasons.

1. It was extremely clean and tidy.
2. Nothing was too much effort. What ever we needed was done and with a great big smile.
3. The rooms were spacious and the beds were so comfortable.
4. The owners were very friendly. We felt like we were living with family.
5. The Motel is near to the beach, the shops and everything else we needed.

There are a number of other reasons we loved our stay there. We actually only planned to stay for 2 weeks but extended due to the environment we were staying in. We have already booked our stay for next year. Its along way from the UK to New Zealand but when you are looked after the way Bernard and Finny looked after my family and I you would travel to the ends of the earth to feel the passion they instil at their Motel.

I would recommend the Fern Motel to anyone. If you want a clean, relaxing and friendly environment to unwind and have fun then try this Motel for yourself.

Jerry Sargeant

Room Tip: Chose a family two bed room. It is perfect.

We stayed here for one night as we had a wedding to go to at mission estate. This motel was located handy to where we needed to go and when I rang to make the booking the host was very helpful and allowed us a early check in, so we would not be late for our function. Unfortunately I found the service they provided in person less helpful, the noise early (before 7am on a Sunday) the next morning was quite substantial, a lot going on outside, laughter, yelling and car doors/boots slamming, and unfortunately the shower in our unit left a lot to be desired, either way to cold or so hot it burnt my husband, I also found dirty cups and glasses in the cupboards. On a plus the bed was comfy and the heating (once we figured out how to work it) was great. So an ok place to stay if you have something on in the area, otherwise I would stay in Napier city.

we have just stayed at the fern motel for two nights, the rooms were spotless, but a little disappointing. beds comfortable and linen was excellent quality. the one down side to our stay was that we arrived on Friday afternoon and on the Saturday afternoon after being out most of the day with our children they went for a swim and were asked by the owner if we had taken one of the blankets off the bed. she was told no, that we used it to put between two single beds that had been pushed together so that our one year old didn't fall between the beds. My daughters came back to the room and were very upset to think that someone thought that they would steal. There was no apology made to the girls. as we were only there two night decided not to move motels. but was not happy about my daughters being upset at all.

We stayed at the Fern for a total of 6 nights two blocks of three nights at the start and the end of out NZ holiday, and with a disaster with the pre-booked Auckland Motel or should I say cat box. The hosts Bernard and Finy are very friendly and helpful in every way. The rooms are spotless and the cleaners are friendly with daily room services you can't go wrong. Loved the red towels just sets off the total effect. Close to everything but with NO street noise. Highly recommend this place and will stay again soon I hope. Highly Recommended to everyone from the business traveller to the family. Lorell from Roma Qld Australia.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms a little dearer but well worth the few dollars extra.

We spent a night here on our way back from Wellington. After some disappointments with other advance booking, we decided to "walk-in" instead. The host was very friendly, she patiently showed me and my two kids the room to make sure that the kids are happy with it. The hotel has a small playground and a pool (non-heat) which to the delight of the kids. The room itself was a bit dated but has been repainted. They also have the refurbished unit was occupied during our stay. The extra point was the air-conditioner in the room, which comes handy during the stuffy summer night. The street on the side can be a bit noisy at night if some blokes decided to muscle their high powered engines. The motel is about 10 mins drive to the town centre and the major supermarkets but only 5 mins walk to a big park.

The room we stayed had one double bed and three single beds in a limited space and separated by a noisy sliding door. The kitchen located right next to the double bed room and can be inconvenient if it's to be used late at night. Despite this, our overall experience of the place was positive and would come back if we're in Napier again.

Room Tip: Try the refurbished unit, it may be better.

After having a horrific experience in a different motel which had industrial amounts of air freshener to hide the smell of cat pee, the Fern Motel was a haven. Walking into the room, it smelled of.......nothing, sweet nothing. I've stayed several times and it is always scrupulously clean. The studio unit is nifty and compact with a well-designed bathroom, light and airy with french doors to the rear. Lovely and warm with the heat pump. The owners are extremely friendly, accommodating with dates, and welcoming to dogs.

Had to go on business again and rang for bookings - Had a large group with us - no problems had family room plus one other - Nothing is a bother for the excellent hosts The motel is always clean and friendly and it is great that small dog who travels with us can stay too!

We always stay here even though it is a little far from restaurants but supermarket just down road.

Definitely back there in a few weeks -

Room Tip: Although you occasionally feel the rumble of a truck - sleep is fine take your swimmies for a dip...
