Great stuff from the art deco age. Pricey though. Good place to potter around looking for stuff that brings you a blast from the past. From times when baby boomers were toddlers or times even before they were born.

The walking tour around Napier is a great introduction to understanding the architecture and the reasons why the Art Deco is predominant. It brought the history to life and made me appreciate the whole area more.

Napier is an Art Deco gem. To derive the maximum benefit from the architectural feast of 30s style the town has to offer, use the Trust and guides to put the experience into a historical context.

I took a 90-minute tour on Sunday evening, with three other visitors and a very helpful and informative guide. Whereas I had seen a lot of the buildings over the previous day or two, the guide pointed out many aspects and features of the individual buildings that I never would have noticed. Taking that you have any interest in Art Deco, this tour is well worth doing.

We totally enjoyed this walking tour around Napier. It's worth doing because the guide points out all sorts of details that you wouldn't otherwise notice. We did the two hour tour which means you get to go inside some of the buildings - I think this is worth it. Even though it was a hot day we were in shade a lot of the time. The pace was gentle. The tour starts with a film in a pleasantly air-conditioned theatre - I found the part about the earthquake and how the land changed really interesting. It was also good to get some broader background about art deco in general since I knew little about it and the broader international context was important to the tour.
