“Our stay was too short”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2014

Jill came out to greet us on our arrival and made us feel relaxed and comfortable. We had a beautiful room with a view of the harbour and it was all a treat. The breakfast was first class with lovely fresh fruit, delicious bread and great coffee. We enjoyed the whole experience immensely.

Room Tip: Our room was spacious and upstairs at the front of the house.

Hello folks
Thanks very much for the review.
We are glad you found it relaxing - both here at the house, and visiting Hawkes Bay. You don't have to go far to visit the Art Deco centre of town, the wineries -the beautiful countryside -and of course all those orchards make it easy for us to serve a selection of fresh fruit for breakfasts.
We hope the rest of your trip was enjoyable.
Regards
Jill and Allan

The Landing is at the end of a narrow street at the top of Bluff Hill, with incredible views of the harbor. The house is very modern, with a huge amount of glass that lets one feel a part of the view. Jill and Allan are most accommodating hosts, and a great deal of fun. Jill's breakfasts are outstanding with homemade muesli, loads of fresh fruit, and a cooked breakfast made to order if desired.

The streets to the top of the hill can be challenging to negotiate, being very narrow and winding. Parking at the B&B is available in one of the 2 garages. Jill and Allan are very willing to drive guests down into town if they don't want to take their car, and a taxi back to the house is only about $10NZD. We were there during Art Deco Weekend when parking was impossible in town, so this was a much appreciated service.

Rooms are very clean and well-supplied, with comfy beds, tv's and a complimentary bottle of local wine. As with all of the B&B's we visited, there is no air conditioning. Further, as we found throughout NZ, there are no screens on the windows. It was very hot when we visited, but leaving the windows open after dark brought a lot of insect visitors. This is not any different from the other B&B's we experienced in the country, but Napier was warmer than the other places we visited. Although free Wi-Fi is offered throughout the property, there had been some problems with it at the time of our visit, so it was a bit sketchy.

All in all, though, one of our favorite stays during our month in New Zealand.

Room Tip: The studio on the ground floor is very quiet and has a little private patio and an ensuite bath. Bu...

Hello folks
Thanks so much for your kind review. We are glad you enjoyed your time here at the Landing. You were here on one of the hottest days of the summer -and I am sorry I didn't explain that there is a portable air-conditioning unit for the Studio. It doesn't often get so humid here - and I should have set that up for you. That would have made things more comfortable - I have made sure it is noted in the room compendium for future guests.
The WIFI is back on track now too-who knows?!! - so everyone can do their emails, skype etc in their rooms again.
You certainly did and saw a lot in your time here -and I think went away having had a real "taste" of Hawkes Bay.
We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your time in New Zealand, and had a safe trip home.
Best regards
Jill and Allan

Garden view was our chosen suite. Because the weather was very warm for our 2 day visit ( February 27-Mar 1)we appreciated being on the lower floor away from the setting sun. The suite was comfortable and as an added bonus we had the use of a shady patio. When we arrived Jill worked her magic and made a last minute arrangement for us to join a progressive dinner/ wine tour around Hawkes Bay- fun! Jill and Allan are congenial hosts, served as chauffeur, advisors and all around great hosts and they have succeeded in creating comfortable spaces for their guests.

Hello folks
Thanks very much for your kind review. we enjoyed having you here -and could see you were enjoying your time here at the Landing. Getting on the evening wine tour with OdysseyNZ was just such great timing -and you were lucky to have the beautiful evening to go with it. We find we have a good network of contacts now for tours, dining and winery visits -some local knowledge is a wonderful thing!
Hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in New Zealand, and had a safe trip home.
Best regards

Jill and Allan will take care of you, BUT, they are selling the place, so unsure who/what will replace them. Being on the hill, it is walk to the center, but Jill is ready to drop you off within a short distance of the center. The other disadvantage is the absence of A/C in the bedrooms.
Jill is very accommodating about breakfast - the menu and the time. It is not possible to get better than that. Moreover, she seems to know everyone in town, and vice-versa. We wanted to get into "Indonesia", the restaurant, and she called the owner for a done deal, with a discount!

Room Tip: Try to get the Queen's room - it has the best view, with en suite bath.

Hello folks
Thanks very much for your review. Being here over Art Deco weekend meant you saw Napier at one of it's busiest times -but lots of fun with all the vintage cars, planes, people in deco costume, and activities all around town.
It was also one of the hottest days of the summer. I am sorry I didn't explain the Bayview Suite has airconditioning, and the Studio, and the Lookout Room each have a portable air-conditioning unit -which I should have set up for you. My apologies -that would have made things more comfortable.
We are hopeful that we will sell the business to someone who enjoys it as much as we do -time will tell!
Hope you enjoyed your time in the South Island -and that you had a safe trip home.
Regards
Jill and Allan

If you can manage to get the Bayview Suite in this 3-room B&B, you are in for a treat. It is large, spotlessly clean and what isn't glass is nicely appointed. You are on Napier's highest hill overlooking the bay about 500 metres away. The hostess will give you your breakfast of choice and help you every way she can to see interesting Napier and to enjoy your stay.

Hello Carol
Thank you so much for your review.
We enjoyed meeting you both, and could see you were enjoying the Bayview Suite. We hope you also enjoyed the views over at Craggy Range - we always recommend to guests that they visit the winery, or go there for lunch as it is such a special setting.
Hope the rest of your trip was enjoyable, and a safe trip home.

Hello Sarah and Andrew
Thank you for taking the time to do the review.
As you could see we were very pleased that you had chosen to come and spend your first wedding anniversary here at the Landing. Good work Andrew! -and we hope you found the Bayview Suite to be suitably romantic.
A view over the sea is always relaxing -and different to the greenery you are used to.
We would be happy to see you if you can come up this way for a break again.

Jill and Allan

As step of our wedding anniversary tour , we stayed here for 2 nights. in Bay view room. It's true the sea view from balcony is very nice but the view on the right is also on the Port (the loading docks ), the problem is that the loading dock is "very very" active , and thats become very noisy all night.

Jill was very friendly and helpful, even driving us into town for dinner. The room was clean.
the continental breakfast was nice.
In summarize the only negative point is too much noise all night.

Hello Yves and Dominique
Thank you for writing the review for us.
We were very sorry to learn from the review that the noise from the port had been disturbing to you. Just closing the windows can make a huge difference - I do apologise that we could not make some suggestions to help.
We are glad that you enjoyed your time here in Napier, and
we hope that you enjoyed the rest of your trip -and had a memorable 35th wedding anniversary tour.
