“We'd stay here again, anytime!!!”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

We liked The Landing a lot and thought (though it might be hard to believe) that its other glowing reviews actually failed to do it justice. We had a great time and we’ll definitely stay here again in the future! Jill and Allan are wonderful hosts. They are interesting and well traveled and know perfectly how to pamper their guests. A bottle of great Hawkes Bay wine awaited us on arrival, along with freshly baked cookies and a plate of gourmet truffles and chocolate dipped apricots. It just doesn't get any better. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the neighborhood was quite peaceful with great panoramic views of Hawkes Bay below. The made to order breakfast Jill prepared for us was also excellent in every respect.

It’s a bit of a walk down the hill to the town on one side or the port and marina on the other, but either one has a good number of choices for dining. You can walk back up, but if you’d prefer to ride, a cab up the hill is worthwhile and only costs about $12. We’d recommend booking your stay here as early as possible so as to to get the stunning suite overlooking the harbor. We were too late for this, but weren’t at all disappointed in the Lookout room, where we stayed.

There is much to see and do in this region, which is one of the centers of the New Zealand wine regions and Napier is a cute little town with a marine heritage as well as many interesting and beautifully preserved art deco buildings. Our only regret is that we didn’t budget more time for it.

We stayed with Jill and Allan for 3 nights - what a perfect start to our trip to Hawkes Bay. This accommodation well and truely deserves to be No1 in Napier. The views are awesome, nothing is too much trouble for your hosts and there are lots of nice touches and extras in your room. This is definitely one we will return to - thank you !

Room Tip: Bay View has the most amazing views - but the ones from the loojout room are also good

Hello folks. Thanks for taking the time to review your stay. We enjoyed meeting you, and know you enjoyed the space in the Bayview Suite. We are always pleased when we see guests are able to relax and use us as a base for their stay. Thanks too for your information and reviews on the activities and restaurants you tried whilst here - I'll certainly pass it on. Hope to see you again some time - in SUNNY Hawkes Bay. Regards

We stayed at The Landing in October for a 2 nights whilst we explored the Hawkes Bay region. Jill and Allan were the prefect hosts making us instantly feel comfortable and helping arrange a wine tour the following day with the excellent Gareth- am sure we wouldn't have had such a good tour if we'd done it ourselves! They couldn't have been more helpful during our whole stay - from organising our tour to ordering our takeaway when we returned (and were too full from cheese and wine to venture out down the hill to dinner!) and checking weather reports for our onward journey before we left.
We stayed in the Bayview room and, personally, I don't think the photos don't do the room justice - it was beautiful with stunning views across the bay which we enjoyed in the evening whilst eating Jill's homemade chocolates! (And the biggest bathroom ever!)Breakfast was lovely - great healthy (and not so healthy!) choices. The whole experience added up to exactly what they are striving to give their guests -a luxury boutique B&B experience which you just wouldn't get in a hotel. We will definitely be back next time we are in NZ and wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Landing to our friends and family.

Room Tip: pay extra to stay in the Bayview Suite - its worth it!

Our stay at The Landing was one of the nicest stops during our 2 weeks in New Zealand. Our room was comfortable in all respects and the view over the bay was spectacular. Jill and Allan's hospitality and willingness to make our visit easy and comfortable were outstanding; and Jill's breakfast was delicious.

We stayed at the Landing for only one night during our 3 week NZ honeymoon, but I wish we could have stayed longer! As others here have noted, the views from the rooms are breathtaking and on a sunny day you feel very lucky to be there. The breakfast was the best we had during our trip and Jill's homemade cookies and chocolates were absolutely delicious. It's really those small personal touches that make all the difference. Best of all, we felt very welcome and received great advice from Jill on things to do in Napier and around. My husband ended up playing golf at Cape Kidnappers, it was an expensive but memorable round for me as well. If you love golf, it's worth it and they have a great restaurant there as well. As far as NZ B&B's go, you can't really do much better than the Landing. We hope to visit again soon!

We really enjoyed our 3-day stay at The Landing, it really is a fantastic place to stay. We stayed in the Bayview Suite; a beautiful room situated at the top of the house, giving great views across the bay. The room was beautifully styled and well appointed with tea/coffee making facilities, a small lounge area and a large walk in wardrobe to store our cases. There is also a wonderfully spacious bathroom; perfect for unwinding in the bath after a long day exploring the city.
The hilltop location is superb; providing both spectacular views across the city and peace and tranquillity, while not compromising on accessibility to the CBD – a short drive away or a 15 minute walk downhill!
The breakfast each morning was great; a choice of cooked breakfast or cereals and toast with homemade preserves - this kept us going all day :-) We also enjoyed a fantastic evening meal (available on request).
The Landing truly felt like a home from home, Jill and Alan are the perfect hosts. They strive to meet your every need and are a font of knowledge on the local area. We also had several lively and enjoyable conversations with them both, which added to the homely atmosphere.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend the B&B for travellers wanting to enjoy peace and quiet with friendly, welcoming hosts.
Thank you Jill and Alan for such a fantastic stay!
