“An interestiong big house”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

That was a big house located near the beach and the town.

Inside the house was like maze. Like this; go up the stairs, turn right or left, up few more stairs, turn left or go straight passing by bathrooms, turn the corner...oh, there are steps to the courtyard...I don't think I can write a map though I was there for two nights.

The room was small but clean. Bathrooms are good as well. Quiet and friendly.

This old wooden building is located right across from the beach. The people who run it are friendly, professional, and helpfully answer any questions from "where is the supermarket" to "can you book me a tour". They genuinely enjoyed interacting with travellers.

The hostel has a large and bright kitchen and large courtyard (including BBQ). The bathrooms could do with a revamp as they look a little tired, but there was always hot water.

Room Tip: Room 26-29 are in a separate building in the courtyard, so don't have noise transfer from dorm r...

We only stayed one night at this place, and really loved it. Conveniently located across the road from the beach and within walking distance from the city centre, we loved it. Nice and quiet, super clean and with very friendly staff. The outdoor area was very inviting!

This is such a lovely old building, full of character and in a great location. The staff are friendly and helpful. The kitchen is well equipped and a good size and there is a nice courtyard at the back. Rooms are what you would expect from a YHA hostel but clean and comfortable. I would stay there again.

YHA Napier is a small building with rather old fashion rooms. Fairly basic with shared bathroom facilities. The best thing about it is the location, right on the seafront. Car parking is normally in the road behind which is free parking. If you like Art Deco this is probably one of the best locations in the world. The 3rd week in February 2013 is the annual festive week. Loads of buildings are perfectly preserved in the original Art Deco style.

Room Tip: All rooms are similar.

I highly recommend this as THE budget accommodation in the Napier / Hawkes Bay area. The rooms are great, some quite small, the kitchen facilities are superb, there is seating outside in a private courtyard, and the owners are fun people for whom everyone has a great deal of respect.Should win an award for location as the Pacific Ocean is literally just a few metres across the road.... Lounge, laundry etc all great..!!! Easy to find on Marine Parade, not directly in the town centre...!! Call to check availability (+64 6 835 7039), or see web-site YHA Napier. Supermarkets and cinema within walking distance. I loved it...!!

My bus arrived to Napier lately, but the staff at the reception was waiting for me and gave me a warm welcome with smile on her face. Staying there two nights and found it would be one of my most favourite hostels in New Zealand. The room was clean, tidy with ocean view. The lounge was quite big enough to enjoy the comfortable atmosphere, to watch movies or just have a chit chat with friends. Its location was perfect, oppositely with the bay, not too far from the city centre and just few minutes on foot to National Aquarium, Rush Monroe ice cream.
