“Nice food and lovely location”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

We went to the Thirsty Whale while on holiday for a fancy meal. I was impressed with their level of service and the view was incredible. The food was nice, well-produced fare for the price paid but somewhat missing the X-factor. If there were some more culinary risks taken I would rate it higher. All round though it was a nice experience and a good place for a visit.

“Awesome place to dine.”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Went to Thirsty Whale on Monday night for the first time. The food was awesome, and the two waiters clearly worked well together and provided great all round service. Would highly recommend the Paua Fitters!! Can’t wait to go back next time we are in Napier.

“Still very good”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

We visited the Thirsty Whale a few years ago while in Napier with some friends. We dined off the "upper level fine dining" menu and were very impressed then with both the meals and the service. Recently we returned to Napier and being a fine sunny evening thought we would try the lower level menu while sitting in the sun on the deck. We found the variety of menu choice very good and the food was well prepared. The wait staff, while ver busy, we're very efficient, attentive and informative. They certainly couldn't be faulted. One criticism that could be made, and probably applies to a lot of other establishments in the Bay, is that there are insufficient wine by the glass options on the wine list. This is wine country and people need to be able to sample wines without having to buy an expensive bottle of something they might not like/appreciate.

“Enjoyable meal”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Had a very good meal here recently made all the more enjoyable through meeting some good friends there by chance. The stuffed red pepper, haloumi & portobello mushroom stack was very good, as was the service. The setting upstairs was pleasant.

“Location hard to beat. Great place for people watching”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

Have been here several times and especially enjoy this place over the summer period. So great to sit on the deck and watch people go by. The menu is quite extensive so never a problem for us - and the kids - to find something to chose from. The service is always very attentive.
