“Marvellous Hospitality”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

Six of us stayed here in February. Simon and Wendy are fabulous hosts. The B&B was clean and a very well equiped with lots of little extras, they have thought of everything. Breakfasts where amazing starting with fresh fruit platter, homemade museli (which Wendy gave us the recipe for) as well as homemade jams and peanut butter. Simon cooked us fanastic omlettes 12 out of 10 the best my husband has ever had. We were offered different hot breakfasts each morning. Wendy also mastered the fantastic Vitamised fresh fruit drinks as a bonus each morning. Truly an amazing start to the day. This was served outside alfresco in their lovely gazebo. We also had a welcome platter consisting of Wine and nibbles at 5.30 a wonderful suprise, an excellent way to relax at the end of our day. Not being a B&B person the Mission exceeded our expectations and have changed my mind. We had the run of the house during the day which was excellent and met some other lovely travellers. A short walk to the Mission House and what a great meal we had there. Also by the marina the Flying Dutchman Takeaway Fish and Chips were the best we had had for years. Thanks Wendy and Simon you proved us with marvellous hospitality the best we have ever encounted,

We stayed at this B&B for two nights. Our hosts, Robert and Wendy, were most welcoming. It was much like being at home. They served excellent wine and nibblies (which include fantastic cheeses, fruits, crackers and olives) every evening. We were offered a variety of breakfasts. The beds and linens were of the best quality. Both Robert and Wendy were a wealth of knowledge about the many local wineries and restaurants. Our stay there was wonderful, so much so that we would like to go back at some time in the future.

Room Tip: All of their rooms are great. Simply give them a call.

We recently spent two nights with Robert and Wendy and can't thank them enough for their hospitality. Excellent company, ideal accommodation and incredible service never mind amazing breakfasts! These are people who open their home up to visitors because they like meeting people and want to help you have the best time when you are with them. I wish more B&B hosts had this attitude.

While you can't stroll into town from here, the proximity to the Mission vineyard and restaurant makes up for that. Robert had recommended the restaurant and had kindly booked a table for us before we arrived. A must do while in Napier and you only have to walk/roll back down the drive to your bed.

The extra touches of the nibbles and wine on arrival were very much appreciated as was the guest lounge room.

I hope we can return one day.

My husband and I have just come back from two fantastic nights here, the owners were very welcoming friendly and knowledgable. The continental breakie was healthy and fulfulling and I have their yummy muesli recipe which I am looking forward to make. The plus for us were the great bikes that they lent out to cycle the nearby cycle trails this was awesome and we also climbed a nearby sugar loaf hill.
The Mission being just down the road made for a lovely night out as well. Didnt get to watch any films on their Blu ray system will have to return again to make the most of this and more. Thanks Robert and Wendy.

You will be hard pushed to find anywhere better. Great accommodation within walking distance of the vineyards with fantastic hosts in Wendy and Simon. We really enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was fantastic and served in brilliant sunshine on the extensive outside decking. Robert knows his wine and was happy to share his extensive knowledge. The fivesies consisting of nibbles and wine were brilliant. By coincidence we found out that Robert had lived just a few hundred yards from our address in North London and had stayed with one of our golfing pals. A small world!

Indeed a small world. Thank you for taking time to review your recent stay with us. Pleasure was all ours hosting you. The pre dinner 'Fivesies' as mentioned earlier, are our way of welcoming new guests. When weather cooperates we do them 'al fresco'. Breakfasts too seem better outdoors, and this has been a terrific summer in all respects. We love to show off our local fruit, veg, wine, cheese, olive oils & delectibles. Happy we hit the mark (no pun intended) with you, and thanks for the lovely comments. Hoping your travels find you returning to Napier in the near future, RS & W

Our family of 4 spent 2 nights with Robert and Wendy between Christmas and New Year. We had 2 double/twin rooms with private bathroom (not ensuite) and separate loo in the 'family unit'. The rooms were very comfortable and spotless, and we also had free use of a well equpped and comfy sitting room, outside deck with BBQ and guests' fridge. Breakfast was continental with an option for 'the works' - but unless you really are a very big eater this latter would be unnecessary as homemade granola and yoghurts, artisan breads, muffins, homemade jams, and a large platter of fresh fruit were on offer. Robert and Wendy were genuinely hospitable and very keen for us to enjoy our short stay in the Napier region, offering helpful advice and suggestions as to wineries, restaurants and other local attractions. What really marked out the B&B was the 'fivesies' Robert and Wendy provided each early evening - picture yourselves sitting under a pergola in a lush flower filled garden, sharing a bottle of local wine, fruit, olives and other nibbles with them, their friends and any other guests who happened to be around - bliss!

The B&B is a little way out from the centre of Napier in a quiet suburb a short walk from the Mission winery and restaurant, but this meant easy parking and quick access to roads leading elsewhere.

I've given maximum score for all criteria except sleep quality (and this feels rather stingy given how great the experience was generally) but the rooms are not air-conditioned and even with a fan proved to be very warm on a hot summer night. Also the twin bedroom is off the kitchen and light sleepers could be disturbed by the noise of breakfast preparation.

*Thank you for the lovely review of your recent stay with us. It's proving to be the warmest vintage since 2009 & we're enjoying the 'al fresco' wining & dining as much as you: Our breakfasts & welcome platters (5sies) on the deck, showcase the best regional produce & vinos.

*Complimentary upgrades to ensuite where possible, especially for 'family' visits is the policy .
*Happy you enjoyed our BluRay cinema lounge, free WiFi, and made use of the BBQ.
* Next time please employ our free bicycles for a trip on the new pathways!

*Convenient Mission Quarter location:
Mission B&B on the Avenue, 140 Avenue Road (Mission end) Napier City is 7 minutes drive to both Art Deco & Port Ahurihi precincts, & 250m to Mission Winery gates (their restaurant is the region's finest).
* Easy walk to 2 of NZs oldest wineries & fine dining 7 days a week lunch & dinner.
* Appreciate your thoughtful comments & extend a welcome for a speedy return

Wine lovers, take note. This is an excellent B&B for it's wonderful hosts, breakfasts and garden. Robert (host) is very knowledgeable about the Hawke's Bay wine scene and is very pleased to share his impressions with you. In fact, he is a fountain of information about the area's interesting history and general activities. They also have two high quality bikes for guests to use, a big plus.
