Great location, nice views over beach area. Went to Globe theatre for a movie and then Milk and Honey for dinner - lovely treat. Very friendly and helpful staff, with lovely spacious room - every thing you need - would recommend!
Only issue was industrial fan from across road from Hot Chick.

Lovely view out to the main beach, close to everything, walking distance to shopping, cafes, and supermarket. Nice and clean with large spa in room, most relaxing. Well appointed room, nice and warm with morning sun coming in.

Selected this hotel after reading great reviews and was not disappointed. A friend and I went on a girls weekend away and wanted a nice place to stay as it was my friends first ever girls weekend away. We were very welcomed and what an amazing surprize with a complementary bottle of champagne. Would defnitally recommend this hotel. Thanks for the lovely stay.

Have stayed at the Nautilus on 4 separate occasions, and have thoroughly enjoyed each stay. I have stayed in many motels both in NZ and abroad, and quite simply, the Nautilus is the quality benchmark, The hosts are very friendly and helpful, and the rooms top quality. Facilities in the rooms are excellent, and its location on Marine Parade is super. Waking up to a sea view is always a great start to the day!

I stay at the Nautilus whilst in the Hawkes Bay every month. Always have an outstanding experience - great staff, great rooms, great service, and a fantastic restaurant onsite if you don't feel like going any further afield.

Whether it's a business trip, or my wife and I coming to Napier for the weekend, the Nautilus will always be my first port of call.

Room Tip: Corner suites are outstanding - 312 is my favourite.

Always clean and well maintained with a great check-in lady. Not a lot of room left in the small fridge for our supplies as they have a "bar fridge" system but workable. A shame their basket of goodies on the bench is also "pay if you use" as some motels offer this as a free welcome basket. Overall a great place to stay with quality furnishings, good location and great views.

Room Tip: Go for the top floor for best views.

The Nautilus was a very nice hotel to stay in most respects. I had a very well furnished, spacious apartment. Among the offerings there were supplies for full self-catering including a small stove-top, microwave, and other basic cooking and eating supplies (this provision for self-catering is somewhat unusual in a lodging of this standard), and a very nice in room spa bath. The room was well set out, the quality of furnishings was good, the bathroom was appealing, and the room had a nice balcony area overlooking the sea. There was also a mini-bar with maybe the best priced items I have ever seen (still expensive, but way cheaper than usual for a mini-bar).

While mostly very nice, a number of issues ultimately prevent me rating it higher. To begin with a three floor establishment with any pretence of luxury really needs an elevator - hauling luggage up a fairly steep external staircase to the third floor is not exactly a good start to a 'luxury' stay. No offer of assistance was given either - pity help some older or less able-bodied person if they booked in expecting better service than you'd get at a cheap motel. The staff in general seemed alright, if not particularly attentive, but they certainly were not offering to assist customers with their luggage.

My other main beef was that although free internet was provided, and I believe unlimited (that in itself is a positive), unfortunately it was quite frustrating to use. The signal was a bit weak, taking a long time for my device to detect - in fact it detected the hotel next door long before the Nautilus - and then the signal tended to remain weak and a bit slow, only registering two out of three bars anywhere in the room. It was especially weak on the balcony. But worse than this was that it kept logging me out. It seemed to be once an hour that the hotel's wifi would log me out and I had to go and find the codes again and log back in - very annoying!

A few other issues were that the carpark was a bit of a hodgepodge, the room safe was difficult to use (lengthy details omitted), and unusually no luggage rack was provided in the room. While the TV was a good big Samsung flat-screen model there were a few issues with it, including that the picture did not fit properly on the screen, remaining cropped no matter what settings I tried. It was also mounted higher on the wall than necessary, not that this is uncommon in hotels. Furthermore a Sky Pay TV guide was in the room but I didn't notice any Sky channels on the TV, not that I looked closely so perhaps they were accessible through a different mode or something that wasn't very obvious.

The bed was okay, not terrible but a bit too soft for my liking. The pillows were fine. The bedside clock was set to well and truly the wrong time and the alarm was set to ring at some ungodly hour (which it did); I often find this minor thing is a bit of an indicator of the level of care proprietors are putting into their rooms, so this is not a good thing. The shower was a high-pressure unit, again not terrible but not my preferred design, however it also sprayed out the top of the fixture so really needed to be fixed or replaced. The towels were just alright, and the toilet paper supplied was pretty cheap.

The heater/air-conditioner didn't seem to do anything, all it did was blow out coolish air regardless what temperature or mode it was set to. It certainly didn't do much to warm the room, so fortunately it wasn't too cold when I stayed, but as with some other things it seems this also needed repairs. The coffee plunger was also poor quality, the plunger part just sinking through the coffee of it's own will rather than waiting to be plunged. There was a bit of noise from Marine Parade in the morning, but it wasn't too bad.

There is much to like about The Nautilus and it certainly had some very pleasing features. However the frustrating wifi and lack of elevator, combined with the range of other complaints and maintenance issues bring this down from the highest rating. I'd recommend they run a careful maintenance program through the hotel to return things to the standard they suggest at first appearance and that customers would expect of a hotel of this rating. Having said which, this would still be high on my list for accommodation if I were to return to Napier.
