I was initially disappointed to have a room on the top floor as I thought I'd have to haul my tonnage of luggage up flights of stairs. A luggage elevator makes life so much easier ! The room was a jaw dropper. Huge spa bath, balcony with 180 degrees ocean views, immaculate, air conditioner, kitchen with everything, tasteful decor and furniture. Slept well despite the traffic from the road side. Awoke to a beautiful sunrise and a reluctance to leave.
I look forward to coming back. It won't be soon enough!

If you don't (or can't) stay in downtown for Art Deco, I recommend The Nautilus. The staff was friendly (they do close the office at 9pm, so if you arrive late, you'll need to call for over-the-phone check in prior to 9pm. They were really friendly about this, and even agreed to do it over email if we needed to). The breakfast was great. The maids were friendly and worked very fast. I also liked that it was quieter down by The Nautilus so it's a good escape from the festivities of downtown. I would definitely stay here again! Our room had a gorgeous view of Norfolk Island Pines and the Pacific Ocean.

One big plus was the fantastic bathroom! It's absolutely huge and everything looked brand new and spotless.

They have 41 rooms and 34 parking spaces. If you arrive late or go out in the evening, you may have to try to find parking on the street somewhere. They just say that that's the way it is, and there is nothing they can do.
The internet, both Wifi and Ethernet cable, is free and supposedly unlimited. But it is very frustrating to use. It will not connect through Internet Explorer, so you have to connect with Chrome, then use IE. Every time you close the browser, you have to put in the password again. The connection breaks every so often, and you have to reconnect with the password. It seems to me that a fairly expensive hotel like this could provide a robust, fast, reliable, internet connection.
The one washer costs $3 to use and the dryer is also $3.
There is no elevator, so the climb to the third floor may be difficult for some people.
But otherwise, it is a nice motel with good service. Friendly, helpful people at reception. The third floor ocean front rooms have a good view of the ocean from the window and balcony.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your stay at The Nautilus. We do appreciate your comments and acknowledge that parking can be tight at times when the hotel is full.
Every guest is informed that parking is undesignated at check in.
We will certainly investigate the issue you had with your wifi connection.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and wish you well. Thank you again

Sea view balconies. Nicely furnished. Magnificent spa bath on bedroom with sea view as well as normal good shower. Clean with comfortable large lounge area in room. Comfortable bed. Convenient to walk into town in 5-10 mins. Something for most other motels to aspire to? Great value

We didn't have a reservation, the Nautilus was the first property we tried; our host invited us to inspect - just what we wanted! Kevin couldn't be more helpful throughout our stay. We had a ground floor room; it was spacious and well appointed; very clean; and, the noise from Marine Parade wasn't an issue as it was only during the day. The breakfast offering was excellent, with sufficient choice and reasonably priced. The property is conveniently located to walk to the business (Restaurant) area and as a base for visiting the regions wineries/cellar doors; the views are super.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms are spacious

Fantastic experience from the moment we checked in, to the moment we departed. Kevin, his wife and their assistant Sarah were 100 % accommodating and very friendly. Kevin could not do enough for me and he and his wife always had a genuine smile. Sarah had recommended a winery (Mission Winery) for lunch which I was unaware of. I cannot think of better place for a beautiful luncheon and a great glass of wine. Sarah was "right on the mark" with this tip. The Nautilus is extremely good value and this opinion is based on a lifetime of travel. The room was quiet, clean, spacious and comfortable. We stayed on the top floor-3rd. This hotel location is in walking distance (or under a 5 minute car ride) from everywhere you want to go and is very easy to locate when arriving in Napier. Shopping is very good in Napier. Lots of little shops downtown with some excellent restaurants. Go to Mister D's for lunch or dinner. It's not to be missed. Thai Hutt on the main street is a good alternative to bigger restaurants. Definitely go to the Elephant Hill Estate Winery and the Te Mata Estate Winery. Don't miss the NZ Wine Centre which sells wine and offers tastings.

Room Tip: I stayed in the corner unit, 3rd floor - immediately at the top of the stairs next to the luggage el...

Mixed reviews for Nautilus made us a little nervous BUT all I can say is that Nautilus exceeded all of our expectations and certainly delivery quality. Both before and on arrival they went out of their way to ensure that we had an enjoyable stay.

The location is great being within walking distance of all the attractions and the beach just across the road. Sure there is some noise from the Marine Parade traffic, but the hush glass works fine and there is hardly any traffic from 11pm to 7am. Foe supplies it is only an easy walk to large supermarkets and especially good for fresh croissants on Sunday morning.
The apartment was spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Not sure that I would want the water bill for filling the huge circular spa bath, but it was a real pleasure to have in our apartment.

We would happily use the Nautilus again and would recommend it for your Napier vacation.
