We have enjoyed having Zinc nearby and have kept loyally going back but too many bad experiences have finally made us say enough is enough. The very high prices don't help either especially when you are eating at a neighbourhood cafe with little in the way of comfort or glamour.
A recent smoked fish pie was made with one of our coarser, cheaper fish, served in a small pot that was barely a cupful and accompanied by a heap of undressed salad leaves that had seen better days. $25! Even after a very long wait, the children with us rejected the heavy, doughy ricotta cakes, one cake decidedly undercooked.
Pork sliders should be luscious little burgers not just a bun filled with an undistinguished coleslaw and a very few scraps of frizzled pork. Again, even the kids wouldn't eat them. The belly pork also promised more than it delivers. A few small squares of rubbery, dry meat, chewy crackling, a pond of sweet sauce and a heap of a sodden noodle salad don't add up to an expensive main.
Good fries but then they are hardly difficult.
So it's farewell from us after many hundreds of dollars spent on disappointing meals. I suggest keep the interesting menu, up the quality and quantity and lower the prices. There are too many excellent cafe choices in Hamilton to be bothered with Zinc.
