I have stayed here many times . Yes it is a little dated but this is usually reflected in the price I feel. We come from Auckland and stay here with friends of ours and our children . The triple rooms are great value for money. Once checked in we usually go across the road to the Hamilton pools which have slides and the kids spend a couple of hours there. We then come back and have a rest may go in to town and do something and then after dinner the kids go down for a spa and swim in the hotel pool. After that we sit back and relax ,kids in one of the rooms adults in the other and if we are lucky some of us go off to the casino for a little play. The ones that stay back order from room service a late night snack which is very reasonable prices and nice. We have always found the breakfast nlce and feel this is a great value for money getaway for a couple of days. On our way back to Auckland we go to firepot cafe in gordontown which is awesome. Looking to come down in school holidays next month.

Apart from being a very dated, non-central conference venue, bar far the biggest let down was the lack of mobile phone service on the property. Beds and decor were old. On the plus side the food was okay and the staff friendly. But given I couldn't work without my phone and data connection, I wouldn't stay again.

Thank you for your comments, cell phone coverage from vodafone is not a strong signal and when atmospheric conditions are not right signal can be blocked by concrete block walls which the main accommodation wings are made of. We are 4 km from the city centre and as such enjoy benefits such as less noise, large free car parking and easy access.

Beds are replaced as and when required and to some degree this is dependent on guest feedback such as yours. We will endeavour to ascertain the room you stayed in and check the bed. All curtains, carpets were replaced in the last 18 months along with new boxed bedspreads and headboard material.

      Kind regards

I have stayed at the Kingsgate Hamilton for 3 years in a row. Found the Hotel to be adequate, but in need of some refurbishing. The rooms are large and the common areas are perfect for conferences etc. I normally stay here as part of a group attending a dance workshop for children and teenagers. The Hotel is really accomodating for such a group. The breakfast is a bit average, but very adequate .. plenty of food. Good dining room.

Room Tip: Try to choose a room away from the road, to prevent road noise. Also there are no lifts so if you have a lot of luggage go for a room on the ground floor.

This is an ok place to stay if you don't have great expectations. If you just need a clean room to sleep in for a night, then, this will do. We booked and paid for 2 rooms with breakfast included through the bookings. com website. When we checked in, they only had one room for us. After a long process we managed to get two rooms adjacent to each other. The rooms were spacious and lovely to lounge in. Walls are really thin. We had trouble sleeping because the couple on the other side were very 'loud'.The swimming pool is not heated but the kids had a blast in the spa pool. The pool area is not very friendly because you can't lounge around and enjoy a drink ( no food or drinks are allowed in there). I can understand this is for safety but I think it would be more enjoyable if there was bar service. Full buffet breakfast was nice but they kept running out of bacon and eggs. On the upside...the staff were very nice and friendly and Kingsgate is a good place to stay if you just need a nice clean place to crash while in Hamilton. No activities for kids. Good place to stay for conferences but not for family holidays.

Room Tip: If travelling with kids, ask for room 613 as it's big and spacious. If you're after a good nights sleep don't book room 615..walls are very thin. There was no hair dryer in room 615 either.

Thank you for your comments the swimming pool is heated to between 24-26 degrees, as specified by our pool servicing company to avoid bacterial growth. The temperatures and PH levels are checked on a daily basis.

I would suggest if travelling with a family you try to book a triple room as they are in the other wings from the 60 wing and block concrete walls between rooms whereas the 600 wing was built at a later date without concrete block and as such the sound proofing is not as effective.

Waterworld is directly across the road and a great place to take the kids and very popular with families staying at the hotel.

I do not know when you stayed with us but we do try to put out fresh food on the breakfast buffet all the time and over certain periods there may be a rush e.g. 9.30 on a Sunday morning, All items other than the scrambled eggs should not take more than 5 minutes to refresh from empty and bacon and hash browns in particular can be hit very heavily and quickly if a number of guests arrive at once.

Thank you again for your comments, they are very much appreciated.

      Kind Regards

      Murray Cook

just got back from one night in this hotel, firstly on outside appearance, not really very inviting, and the rooms are dated and could do with refurbishment and soon, would not take a lot to make them more modern, however they are adequate, very good size and the bathrooms are pretty modern, could do with a heater in there though, beds are rather uncomfortable, however we had a nice sunny room with a view to the road so was pleased about that, the spa and pool facilities are excellent, however would be nice if they had private changing rooms.
The buffet breakfast was excellent, cannot fault it at all, enjoyed it very much, everything you could wish for , the dining area very pleasant and staff most helpful and cheerful.
overall the kingsgate is not what i call a top hotel, but average and probably good value for money and a family, however i was on a discounted tariff and certainly would not liked to have paid more.
The reception area could do with some brightening up , i also was curious as to why the receptionist enquired if we were a couple, we are, but what business is that of her's,we had pre-booked our rooms in advance, so cannot understand why this question was even asked.
I still enjoyed staying at the hotel, but not sure if i would return.

Room Tip: 2 floor 100 wing is good nice and sunny on the right hand sight of the hallway, we were in 114 but move a little further down as near the entrance to hallway and can hear people opening the door .also has view to the road which is nicer than the other part of the hotel

Thank you for your comments. I am at a loss to your comments regarding the changing rooms as there are two very large changing rooms (with lockers and steam rooms) in the hallway just outside the spa & pool area that leads to the gym. The next part in our refurbishment is to re-varnish the tables and desktops in the room and new material for the bedspreads is currently being sourced. This will complete the new chairs, carpet, curtains and TV's which have all been done in the last 15 months.
Thank you again for taking the time to make comment.
