We stayed with Daphne and Peter Searle in August 2013. They have a lovely small B&B set among olive trees and a landscaped garden. Daphne prepares a nice dinner and breakfast, which adds to the charm of the secluded get-away. We stayed here as a convenient halfway point between visits to the Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton in Matamata.

Uliveto Country Stay and Olive Grove is definitely one of Waikato's best kept secrets. It is a picturesque location and provided a wonderful garden setting to hold our recent autumn wedding. When you first arrive you are greeted by magnificent Mediterranean olive trees lining the driveway and a beautiful backdrop view of the New Zealand rural countryside.

Our hosts, Daphne and Peter Searle were extremely accommodating and we were fortunate to experience their hospitality and high standard accommodation. They really thought of everything to ensure our ceremony went smoothly and was made truly memorable. They were welcoming hosts who provided some wonderful regional information and travel tips for the rest of our tour of Raglan.

The Country House and the many surrounding gardens are testament to their hard work and passion for the Grove. The guest accommodation is designed for private use and access providing total comfort and relaxation in the peaceful setting. The home cooked breakfast is absolutely delicious and offers an abundance of their orchard harvest, preserves and local produce.

We definitely recommend a stay at Uliveto when you are visiting Hamilton and the Waikato region.

Thank you both for your wonderful comments. We certainly appreciate them. Both Peter and I were truly grateful to be a part of your beautiful wedding at Uliveto, and were more than happy to help you organise your day. With the sun shining, a beautiful bride, a handsome groom, with wonderful surroundings, it was a wonderful day to remember. We are pleased that you chose to stay with us and have your special day here. May you both have your special memories and beautiful photographs to keep for the rest of your lives together.

What a great location- Country quiet. Top class rooms with large ensuite. Peter and Daphne are great hosts. Winter or summer you will get a warm reception. Can't reccomend this B&B highly enough. The house and gardens look fabulous but don't worry about the high quality- this house and accomodation is designed for living in and Daphne and Peter make sure you are comfortable in the plush surroundings. Don't take my word for it - Read the other reviews and make a booking for an outstanding experience.

Room Tip: No tips here - both rooms are top class

We appreciate your great review of Uliveto and are so pleased that you enjoyed your time with us. We certainly enjoyed having you to stay and would welcome you back anytime you feel like a weekend away in the peace and quiet of the country. Great conversations over breakfast and over a cup of tea or a drink; you were very easy to talk to. It was our pleasure to have you as a guest for the Fieldays this year.

It was our first night in new zealand. And i cannot think of a better way to start exploring the country and getting to know its people. Peter and Daphne are absolutely lovely and sweet. The house was built with love - the garden, the view from the terrace, the fire place, the home made breakfast with garden secret.. it feels home, only better since we had great accompany. Both of us broke the record with the long hours of sleeping - this does tell something. We will come back, for a longer stay and a wonderful chat with our hosts over dinner. Already one place to comeback to in the country.

Peter and Daphne story is an amazing one. They work so hard that we feel guilty of just enjoying ourselves. However, in this place you can call home, it is hard not to feel rested and relaxed.

We stayed for two nights at the end of our 3 week tour around the top half of the North Island and we could so easily have stayed for longer.... Peter and Daphne built their house and laid out their olive grove and gardens relatively recently but it looks so comfortable and accomplished that you could believe it's been here some time longer. We had a lovely stay in the olive room... we arrived in the afternoon having spent an enjoyable few hours pottering around Hamilton Museum and Art Gallery. We were greeted by Daphne with tea and a smile... and whilst we were ready to take the short drive back into town for dinner later that evening Daphne offered us a meal which we were glad to share and enjoy (full of goodies from the garden and preserve bottles!) Breakfast was lovely too with an abundance of specially requested preserved Black Doris Plums - YUM! Dinner on the second day was even better and Daphne was kind enough to share her time with us and show us some photos of the building of the house and gardens. Convenient for Hamilton, the West Coast and Waitomo we would seriously recommend staying here if you can.

Room Tip: Either guest room would be lovely being in a purpose built wing of the house

What a wonderful entrance to this beautiful B&B - wending your way through the beautifully manicured gardens to a charming property that oozes abundance of olive groves and lavender gardens that make this property spectacular. The hosts, Daphne and Peter are exceptional hosts that provide the ultimate in friendly hospitable accommodation. Our family was with us, so having two beautiful exceptionally clean, bedrooms, each with its own en-suite was definitely a plus for us. Each bedroom had patio doors onto wooden decks with verandahs overlooking the fabulous gardens - its like a country park with such manicured lawns, the orchard, and then the olive grove. Each bedroom opened into the large guest lounge which has a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities The home is modern and the decor is attractive, modern and very clean and spacious. A delicious breakfast - cooked so well by Peter - in their beautiful home, with peace and quiet in the country, made our stay so special. Our little granddaughter was with us, and they made her so welcome too, with providing a high chair, toys. The rooms were warm and cosy, Daphne put extra blankets out for us, electric blankets on for us. All the little things that make this place special. Our needs were well and truely met. Such a wonderful restful garden retreat. All in all, a fabulous country B&B with exceptional hospitality

Room Tip: The Lavender Room is beautiful with lavender linen, overlooking lavender gardens - perfect.
