Our group of 6 decided we could do with some Indian and thought we would take our own wine so were pleased to note that Friends had a BYO for wine but the boys could still buy beer there. There were numerous choices and of course the six of us each had something different. The consensus was that the meal was fine but not extra good, having said that the surroundings were pleasant and the service was good - we would eat here again.

I have tried all the Indian restaurants in Gisborne and I know by far that Friends is the best for butter chicken! The staff are friendly - the name really fits, and it is really fast too, they even bring it out to your car!

The lamb rogan josh is a perpetual favourite of mine, but there are a large selection of alternatives. Simply specify how spicy you want it, from mild to sweat inducing "Indian hot." The staff is consistently pleasant and friendly.

The storefront location is not at all stylish, but does a good job accommodating the lunch rush. (And it is all much fancier/larger than their pre-earthquake location.)

there chicken tikka starters are a highlight, and once you get to hang of the fact that every meal comes with boiled rice and plain naan ordering becomes a breeze.
Will never win awards, and the atmosphere can be somewhat non-existent, but it's a decent reliable spot for a curry, and the staff are always eager to please.
