“Great situation”

Stayed for a couple of days in June 2014. Great location, being right on the beach front with fantastic views over Waikanae beach. I must admit to being slightly disorientated though as I had thought that the beach faced dead east and that we would get fantastic surmises ..... actually faces more south and while the mornings were great to get up to - no sunrise at this time of year.

As for the Motel, very clean and comfortable. We stayed in the two bedroom unit which had everything you needed. I suppose the only thing was that everything needed to be updated and bought into 'today' but that was a small thing really. Management were friendly and could not be faulted.

For its location and comfort, would definitely come back

Room Tip: definite try to get a room on the top floor as these would have the best views. Also bottom floor ro...

Wonderful accommodation right on the beach front. Very clean and well equipped, would be great for families as there is a large grassed area in front of motel then the beach. We had welcomed visits by the motel owners friendly cat.

Room Tip: All rooms would be good.

We recently stayed at the motel for 3 lovely nights, having first stayed here back in 2001. The motel unit still had the same high standard this time as it did back in 2001 which was very pleasing. A very relaxing place to stay, wonderful view out to see - added bonus this time was a visit from Bosco (sorry if your name is spelt incorrectly).

Room Tip: Two visits to Whispering Sands and on both occasions we have had an upstairs unit which provides you...

We stayed 3 nights in a one bedroom upstairs unit. This is the only beachfront motel in Gisborne and it pays to book in advance in summer months. Unbeatable views, an easy amble or drive into the laidback CBD. Older style and compact but immaculate. Friendly staff and the most cheerful and efficient
cleaning team I've ever encountered. You rock ladies!!!

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have the best view with balcony but no lift.

Unbeatable location meters from a long sandy beach with expansive views. Spacious, clean, comfortable rooms with large balcony or patio (ground floor rooms). Short walk to Restaurants, shops, etc. Would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose an upstairs room for the large balcony complete with table & chairs.

will not be staying anywhere else in gisborne from now on.
yes it is somewhat dated in decor, but who would care when you see the view!
full kitchen facilities, spotlessly clean, lovely staff. cat is ridiculously friendly :)
shower head is freakishly low but i often find this in motels.

ideal place to stay, and they even allowed me a late checkout, many thanks!

Room Tip: upstairs for the view!

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2014

Stayed here one night in Feb arriving without a reservation so got what was left which was a family unit with two bedrooms on the ground floor. Generally, we were very happy with the unit and enjoyed walking out onto the beach and listening to the waves as we fell asleep. The bed was comfortable, the unit was clean and the kitchen was well equipped. Although the pay laundry machines were not working (it just took your money and then did nothing, the manager allowed us to use the machines that were reserved for the motel staff) Without air conditioning, the windows definately had to be left open at both ends (beach and car park) to have air flow which resulted in no privacy. In addition, in order to accomodate the two bedrooms, one of which we did not require, the toilet and shower rooms were made very, very small. I went on their website to see what the upper floor rooms were like but couldn't find any pictures. If you did have more than 2 people shairing this unit for more than one night, the bathroom would definately be an issue (6 would be unbearable)
The manager was very welcoming, informative and accomodating and the price and location were great for us. Gisborne actually ended up as one of our highlights during our trip around New Zealand.

Room Tip: Second floor - better view, more privacy
