During the day the street is a lively shopping experience with an eclectic range of shops. In the evening and night it comes alive with the smell of food and sights of revellers bringing joy and colour to the area.

I normally come here for food. There is a large variety of different cuisines and restaurants on this stretch of road. A few of my favourite stops are St. Kevin's Arcade for Acho's, The K'Rd Food Workshop for Moustache cookies and Mercury Plaza foodcourt for Maruten Ramen. The bulk of the places are between Upper Queen Street and the bus stop but there are a few on the Ponsonby end which are good such as Joybong Thai.
The choice on this street is endless since there are many really nice places to go to.
Other than food it does have plenty of shops for clothes or groceries.

Yes, the road is seedy, sex shops, adult clubs, working girls....
And it's run down, grubby, has beggars, ....
But ook across the road to the upper flos of the buildings and there are some interesting buildings

We have walked karangahape Rd everyday from our hotel. Lots of small takeaway kebab places, Japanese sushi, dumpling. Lots of homeless people during the day and evening. We have walked the road all the way from Symonds to ponsonby. Lots of adult sex shops. We didn't feel comfortable walking at night . We did not find any good restaurants as you would find in the tourist areas. This is a culturally diverse, eclectic street more as a suburb for locals and not for tourist.

Great food, lots of choices.
