I just love the street but for Americans think a low class Westwood :) and for Aussies think an average kings cross.

I know I'll sound old before my time but once K Rd was a really interesting place but while there are still some good cafes around, and Revells and Hallelujah desrve a mention, the character just isn't there any more

K Road, as the locals call it for obvious reasons, is right in the heart of Auckland.
Having lived, worked and played in this area for many years I can truly say that this road is unique to Auckland.
The road runs along a ridge up from the downtown area. It has retained a lot of its old architectural charm. No big retailers here if you are looking for that type of shopping experience. The place is full of retro/secondhand fashion shops, cheap food outlets, late night bars, nightclubs, hostels and art spaces.
This part of town has a certain ruff edge to it. If you are familiar with Brick Lane in London then K Rd is its somewhat less crowded cousin. It attracts a young, street trendy crowd,
artists, musicians, creative types and apartment dwellers. Check it out!

needs a big clean up again, shops poor, lost its get up and go, parking poor, some old cafes need to re vamp, paint the place up footpaths need steam cleaning, just lost its charm

K Road has a pretty hipster vibe to it but does get a little bit dodgy further down the road. Its all good if you're a bit alternative.

All ways find good coffee and a broad spectrum of humanity here!
Shop for something a little different
