We ate here in January 2013. The location is a bit odd as it is in what seems like a business district and slightly out of the way. This made us feel unsure if we had done the right thing in deciding to come here, but we shouldn't have worried.
The restaurant has a truly unique atmosphere as they have divided up the large space into individual dining areas by using fine metal mesh curtains. We had just a table for two and it felt like we were in our own little universe. We could see through the mesh to other diners but you couldn't hear them, other than a low murmer of talking. It felt like we were in a our own world but you could see distant worlds. The only person who came into our world was the waiter. It worked really well and allowed you to concentrate upon the food, which was worth concentrating upon.
We opted for the 9 course tasting menu with matched wines. It was outstanding. The only slight problem was that we were both somewhat stuffed at the end, even though the portion sizes were small. Perhaps the 6 course would have been better. The wines were from around the world and were really well matched to the food.
The service was excellent. The only criticism is that most of the dishes are very complex and it takes the waiter a long time to recite what it is, which gets a little tedious. We asked to have a copy of the menu left with us so we could remember what we were eating. This is a small criticism, however.
If you enjoy fine dining and you are in Auckland it would be a real shame not to dine here.
