I had booked this evening for my birthday treat with family as it had been recommended to me on a previous occasion. I was so looking forward to it and 7 out of 8 of us had the Sunday roast beef. I can't fault the service and the staff, but for the price, I felt quite disappointed with the meal. Maybe my expectations were a little high, but unfortunately, wouldn't return in a hurry..... it appears, I do the best Yorkshire puddings myself!!!

My experience of the Jervois Steak House was impeccable. The service was outstanding, the Waitresses new the menu off by heart including intense detail about steaks. They were very friendly and helpful, helping my family choose the right meal for the type of food we like. The food was amazing. Best meal I have ever consumed. The steaks were unique, you cannot get anything like them anywhere else, along with that the sides were so delicious (especially Kumara Mash)!! Awesome environment to be in with awesome service and outstanding food. Highly recommend.

We initially booked for two people for the Sunday roast special and then our good friends asked to come too. Being a bit late to book the Sunday roast (needs to be 24hrs in advance) the restaurant were fine with increasing our table size. They were also very accommodating with the fact that one of the party is a vegetarian (I know! and in a steak house too!!) Our welcome was fantastic and we were shown to our table upstairs. Our waiter introduced himself and he was absolutely brilliant with his degree of attention, sense of humour and general hospitality knowledge and skill. Food was exquisite and reasonably priced. My wife and I had the Sunday Roast (beef) and our friends had the scotch fillet and the risotto. We also had the pork and beef pot, bread and dip, calamari and the bluenose carpaccio. All the dishes were fantastic and we washed them down with a couple of bottles of wine, just the price of which was maybe a little high. Otherwise an excellent evening!

We went to check out the quality of various steaks with friends and I believe we can consider ourselves "Little Experts" as we are all working in the food/meat industry.
There was some confusion on a specific cut - Hanger Steak - which showed on there steak chart on a different position then described by our waitress confirming this also with the chef. When Google the cut it was on a total different position again :-) on the 'Beast'. I had the Sous Vide cooked Prime Rib and was a bit disappointed as it had a tougher bite then expected on this kind of product.

This was my favourite restaurant in Auckland. We love fine food and this was top notch. It still is very good, but not quite as good since it has changed ownership. The steak was once again delicious and service was impeccable.
The reason it is not 5 stars is because the menu has lost some of the best things. There is very little vegetables to choose from and I swear they were offering to cook potatoes in about 20 different ways. I think there were 3 different types of mash and 3 different chips. They no longer have the beetroot and feta which was a highlight for my wife, we had to order some very rich cauliflower and cheese, disappointing!
You pay a lot of money for the food here so should expect perfection and it isn't quite there anymore. So come on guys, sort the sides and steak sauces out and you will be back to 5 stars from me.
