This place is fantastic if you like your spicy interesting food.
Loved all the dishes and the service and decor were beautiful.
Got there early as you cannot book as glad we did so as people were waiting for tables when we left. We will return.

We visited this restaurant as a group of friends in April and enjoyed it a lot.
You have the options to order street food, appetizers, main dishes and some more from the menu and it's best to share the food so everyone can get a taste from each dish.
I liked the Salmon Zap and Gaeng Hung Lay but in general, all dishes taste good.
This restaurant has a private customer parking behind the building that makes it much more convenient in a busy night in Ponsonby :)
Make a reservation before you go as it gets quite busy specially over the weekend.
Price is high so expect 100+ for a couple (including drinks).

After reading all the rave reviews i decided to treat my sister in law to dinner at saan for her birthday. We decided on sharing 3 or 4 small plates from the menu. Our first plate was a softshell crab. Totally delicious. Unfortunately that was the end of delicious. From there it was a very slippery downhill slide. Luckily we had ordered all of our choices as from that moment we became invisible for any service. I would love to describe the second dish but it was so unexciting I have forgotten what it was. The last plate (minced something)sticks in my mind because it took 40 minutes to arrive. By this time we were bored witless and decided enough already! As no dessert menu was forth coming we paid the rather exorbitant bill and shot off to Ponsonby Central for a divine chocolate slathered crepe which re established our faith in humanity.

What a fantastic, buzzing, high energy place. The service impeccable, the atmosphere felt like being in another country, the open kitchen added another level of enjoyment if you get seated by it. The food was cooked to perfection, flavours pinging, and everything so fresh and fragrant. The duck was the best Thai meal ever had by me!!! The wine matched perfectly as suggested by ou server! Can't wait to go back!!!

Wow - what an explosion of flavour! The best Thai food I have had out of Thailand - complex layers of flavour in every dish we tried made for a very satisfying meal. The dishes we chose were chilli challenging but very refreshing to find the food not dumbed down or compromised for local tastebuds. I will be coming back whenever I have an excuse.

Hi Jael,

Thanks for your lovely feedback. It's great to hear that people are enjoying our authentic cuisine, chef 'Lek' is extremely proud to share his passion for Thai food with New Zealanders in his second home and is rewarded when he reads emails or reviews like this.

Thanks,
Jess
