“Great tour with real New Zealanders”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013

A nice trip to the country side. Stu was on time and took us to the rainforest, a Gannet Colony, Craftworld (products made only in NZ) a wine tasting, with lunch (included) at Bees on Line. Lunch was very good. After all of that, we went to their sheep farm, Donna (a Maori descendant) opened her home to us, with a tour and demonstrations of their business. We had tea and samplers of NZ products. We were uncertain about taking this tour at first, but it turned out to be one of the better ones we did.

Kia ora,
Thank you for your prompt review.
We were interested to hear the feedback about your initial uncertainty in taking our tour.
Many people may have reservations in dealing with a small owner/operated company (with inability to pull-in as many reviews as other multi-staffed organisations are able to do here on TA!). More, we operate because we want to, not because of the commercialised “need-to-fill-seats-to-make-a-profit” strategy. Having a life outside of tours (i.e. as sheep farmers), we are also able to share more of the “reality” of being true New Zealand*born*, and bringing you back into our home and around the Muriwai region where our family has farmed since the early 1900’s, gives us the ability to knit-in the whole concept of what this tour is about.
Sure, our tours would not suit everyone, but for those who wish to be personally hosted on a unique trip to experience an array of coast & countryside attractions (which includes our sheep farm), a short distance from the city (…and with no hiking!), then people do comment; “it’s the most unique tour in Auckland”.
The vast number of Travel Agents that have taken our tour [so far] this season; (2 of which joined in on this day), is testament that people are definitely looking for something different.
We are pleased to hear our tour actually turned out to be one of the better ones you did.
Best regards,
Donna & Stu.

“An Outstanding Day with Stuart and Donna”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

An outstanding all day adventure. Stuart Hamilton picked us up promptly at 9:15 for an excellent tour along with three others. This is a family operation and Stuart is the driver/guide and his wife is the hostess at the end of the tour. Our first stop was at the Arataki visitor center which is in the Waitakere Ranges that run along the west coast of the North Island. The visitor center had some Maori carvings and great views. Additionally, Stuart showed us many of the local flora and then we had a few minutes to explore on our own. Then it was off to Craft World which had products from many local vendors in a local mall. Stuart assured us that all products were made in NZ and not China. We then went to the Huapai Winery where we sampled some excellent wines including our favorite Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Spitfire by Kim Crawford. After tottering back to the van, we traveled on to BeesOnline for a great included lunch along with wine, beer, coffee or soft drinks. While waiting for our lunch, we tasted the Manuka honey. Our next stop was at Muriwai Beach on the Tasman Sea which has very fine black volcanic sand. A few miles away we walked to the gannett colony with the unmistakable odor of seabirds - reminded us of the Oregon Coast. We were given a traditional Maori welcome by Stuart's wife, Donna, at the family homestead, Motutara. While at the farm we saw the sheep shearing barn, several animals and pets, and treated to an afternoon tea that included samples of several local foods with an individual Pavlova which is a delicious dessert. Then it was back to our apartment in Auckland just before 7:00. We can's say enough about what a great day trip this was.

Hello,
It was lovely receiving your comments. My, what a great recall of the day’s activities you have given! We so enjoyed hosting you all during your stop in Auckland, and as per your account, anyone can well see that there are so many things to keep you occupied for an entire day without the need to travel miles and miles from the city. And, with visiting our private sheep farm as part of your sightseeing tour you also experience something quite unique.
All the best to everyone,
Regards,
Donna & Stu.

“First impression”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013 via mobile

I arrived in Auckland from Denmark and this was my first trip to this far away country. My travelagent had booked a full day tour, and I can only say, what a wonderful start on an exceptional holiday. I love Auckland and your guide was fantastic and my tour to the black beach, will stay in my mind for a very long time.
Thanks for top service.

Kia ora,
Many thanks for writing this review. Summertime also has the gannets at Muriwai Beach, so consequently there are many tours visiting this Auckland Park. Our family (as the region’s early pioneers), has seen so many changes and experienced so much first-hand history of this area which is why our tours visit Muriwai Beach on *every* tour…so you don’t have to choose it as an option like on other “visiting” tours. Being also a Registered Auckland Council approved operator, your visit to this Park is also legal. (It is such a shame that many operators abuse this Registration process to avoid paying the fees, as it is now spoiling it for the honest ones!).
With our farm and home just 7 minutes from the beach, you also get to see the historic side of the area with seeing our relics and photos. Then, offsetting your tour emissions with a Native tree planted in our farm’s own carbon sink tank reserves, benefits our local community and the birdlife of the region where you have spent your day.
Best regards for your future travels,
Donna & Stu.

“Stuart & Donna great hosts!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

We had a wonderful day on a customized tour with Stu. We first bungee jumped off the Auckland bridge and then stopped by a local winery for some tastes. We had a lovely lunch at an outdoor restaurant that had an active bee farm. We then did some site seeing going to a lovely beach and bird sanctuary. The highlight was the tour of Donna and Stu's farm and lovely home. It was an absolutely lovely day and one of the most memorable of our 14 day vacation. Thanks so much Donna and Stu for making the day so special for our family (party of 10!) with ages ranging from 16 to 82!

Hello (x10),
It’s nice to see you home safely after your vacation! Thank you for sharing your comments here on TA. Yes, taking a Private tour with us meant we could fully attend to the tour itinerary you briefed us about. We were only too happy to assist with the arrangements for the bungee and transport (for some jumping and some spectators), and we trust the discount coupons we obtained for the spectators helped too. Disembarking off the Cruise Boat (with 10 people’s luggage), we were also happy to be able to transport this down to your Airport accommodation while you were doing the bungee, thus freeing-up your valuable time, after which we were able to pick everyone up and continue on with our tour.
We are glad everyone across the age-frame of this group enjoyed their day.
Best regards,
Donna & Stu.
PS…We will be emailing the GPS co-ordinates of “your” carbon offset tree shortly!

Hello Hideto,
Thank you for your nice comment on Tripadvisor, and thank you for your effort to write in English…it is great :)
We enjoyed meeting you and your family, and feel thrilled we could give you “special memories” with the day you spent touring the region where we live, our farm, and our home. We look forward to hearing if your son came to NZ to learn English!? And you can all come back to visit “your” tree planted in our farm’s Reserves.
Arigato!
Donna and Stu.
