We took two overseas guests to Fish for lunch as the location is superb for anyone visiting Auckland. At the end of Princes Wharf, and overlooking the harbour, you can almost reach out and touch the passing ferries and other water craft. When I rang to book the table, I was impressed to be asked if it was a special occasion, and were there certain dietary requirements. I asked for a table on the deck so our guests had a good view, and was told if the weather was inclement, we could be seated inside. The menu comprised three different sections, which meant a range of price options. One menu offered two courses for NZ$35, or three for NZ$45, with a choice of three dishes for entree, six for main and four for dessert. We all chose from this and were very pleased with the food and presentation. There was an excellent array of NZ seafood on offer, and this would be a superb restaurant in which to try it. Wines are expensive, but not overly so for a restaurant of this standard. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, but he did have to refer to the kitchen to answer questions about the dishes. Our table was beside the door separating the deck from the interior, and the constant banging of this became a little irritating. It would be worthwhile the hotel investigating a soft closing mechanism for this. We would certainly return to Fish, and definitely with out-of-town visitors.
