“A triumph of style over substance”
Reviewed March 20, 2011

We really looked forward to this meal after hearing so many good things. We opted for the 10 course degustation but were frankly losing the will to live as the mediocre succession of dishes dragged on. The dishes were a repetition of flavours. Nothing really new tickled our taste buds as the night crept by. Many dishes, both sweet and savoury, were covered in what our waiter called 'foam' - it may have been good for putting out fires, but also totally smothered the dishes underneath. I had the wine degustation which was also boring in parts (but not as bad as the food). The predinner cocktail list was limited. The only bright spot was that our waiter was a delight and all the staff were excellent. The decor is minimalist 'don't mess with me' with angular furniture, with little colourful art and dim lighting - which may suit the 'Masters of the Universe' Auckland 'movers and shakers' types. Won't be returning and would only recommend it to those with more money than sense (who will be there anyway!).

A wonderful indulgence. My fiance and I went there to celebrate our anniversary and had treat after treat - a wonderful long lunch. Service was great and the food unbelievable. It was great to see the chefs work as you enjoy your lunch. Really great.

“Very deserving of the high priase”
Reviewed November 2, 2010

We were very fortunate to get a last minute table on saturday night and opted for the 6 course tasting menu which at $110 is great value for such high quality food.

Service was excellent, very attentive giving good explanations of the food and wine without any snobbery. The food was delicious and we also chose matching wines for $65 which again we felt was great value for such expertly matched wines.

Everyone should treat themselves to fantastic food every now and then......

“Just Fabulous!”
Reviewed October 6, 2010

We had a 6 course meal; which came in small portion but nevertheless we were really full afterwards. Took nearly 3 hours to finish but we didn't mind. Fresh and great quality ingredients. I love their mash avocado & wasabi with sugar cured salmon & soy jelly. Seared duck breast was just devine, so is their apple crumble & feijoa sorbet! Highly recommend. Would definitely be back, will probably have their 10 course tasting menu next. Keep in mind that you have to make a booking months in advance. Would also like to mention that the waiter actually explained the dishes that he's serving, like the descriptions in the menu. Which is a bonus as we always like to know what's on the plate, but most of the time can't remember what we read on the menu!
