We had booked for an early weekend lunch and were surprised to find the place half empty. Booking gives free access to the tower's viewing deck above the restaurant. Just going to the viewing deck is quite pricey so may as well eat whilst you're there!

The restaurant revolves once an hour, so during the course of the meal you are treated to superb 360 degree views. The food is pretty good and reasonably priced but somehow that seems incidental. This is an Auckland must do.

Orbit is the revolving restaurant at the top of Auckland's Sky Tower. Two bonuses for diners are complimentary admission to the Sky Tower viewing levels 45 minutes prior (or after) dinner; and discounted parking at Sky Tower when you present your tickets to the Orbit cashier. We drove back into Auckland about lunchtime - the Sky Tower is a great place to park as it is very central, and the tower is an easy landmark to spot when you are unfamiliar with the city. We spent the afternoon shopping in the city, then met our daughter & her partner after work when they also parked at the Sky Tower. We had drinks in a nearby Spanish bar, then went up to the observation decks. The lift has a glass window in the bottom. If, like me, you suffer from vertigo - don't look down! (my head was spinning for the rest of the night). The observation decks were good, because they identify all the landmarks. We were excited to spot Mt.Roskill, the location of one of our favourite NZ movies "No.2". At the appointed time we went to the restaurant level. Orbit revolves at a good pace, taking an hour to do 360 degrees. The food and service was very good (not great like Wildfire), and dad was left with the bill and the vertigo. Overall a great night out.

We had family visiting from Australia & wanted to do something special for Christmas. The 360 views of AKL from the revolving restaurant will certainly be a Christmas we won't forget. Our waitress was friendly and seemed close by whenever needed. The menu had three courses with a good variety of food for a set menu, although one of the mains (turkey) was a dry.

We book online six months in advance but only able to get the 9 pm slot for a table of 7.
We can visit the observation deck for free 45 minutes before the reservation (if each person spend a minimum of $45). The view at night is more dazzling but when it is light, you can see the individual buildings better. The best plan would be to be on the observation deck before sun sets and eat when it turns dark.
10 mins before 9, we went to the restaurant and were asked to wait for the table to be ready. All were very happy when we were then brought to a table by the window. The service is excellent. We were served a dish slightly later than the rest so the chef made us house salad on the house for the wait. The view at night is very pretty with the lights dotting the city. We managed to catch some fireworks too (not sure what event it was though). The food (for us average, non-connosieur people) was out of the ordinary and we could not appreciate some dishes. However, it is a good opportunity to order some exquisite, unique food, just to try new things. (Duck liver, anyone?) A set meal (consisting an entrée, main course and desert) costs $69. If you are not big eaters, you could order a set and a main ($35-45) for 2 and share the entrée and dessert. The elevator has a glass panel floor and it is pretty cool looking down 50 floors deep into the elevator shaft!

I and my family went to there for dinner with view. The atmosphere was good and the staff was very kind. but food was so-so, I think. The food price was high, but cheap at the price with Auckland's view. My family had good time with food and view.
