One of my favorite holidays, I was nervous that maybe people in New Zealand were not going to be that excited about it. I couldn't have been more wrong. Monday just before noon the place started filling up. There was live music, dancing, staff passed out hats and beads out. Beers were comparable. I had breakfast there and since it was a special occasion, there was only a limited menu being served. I had the biggest bacon sandwich I've ever seen. Service was good, but I did not stay there into the evening. Staff was very friendly.

Surrounded by every choice of eatery that you could wish for, and some you would not, I chose O'Hagans as just fancied a pie........

In front of me was a young Japanese on his own and who could not speak English yet the Dublin born waitress handled the situation with great aplomb and cheerfulness.

I was lukcy to have her as my waitress and she was a joy for who little was too much....including chasing after a couple who had left without paying and were suitably embarrassed when caught!

The pie was huge, and served in a sensible bowl, which I enjoyed every mouthful of and the chips were ok but the pie was the star.....now I have had many meat pies and invariably they leave you chewing for ages but here they had cooked the meat slowly and well and it was melt in the mouth,

For Two pints of Kilkenny and the meat pie and chips, 30 NZD (or £15) was extraordinary value for a situation slap bang in the middle of the quayside action........

Do not listen to the moaners......try it yourself!!

Called in for a drink. Did think about eating here but the food being served looked ordinary and judging by the remains of food on plates that went back to the kitchen not all that great. Service at the bar was quick, friendly and drinks reasonably priced for the location. Looked the same as every other Irish pub anywhere in the world except probably Ireland. Nice views over the harbour and plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor.

It is just another "Irish" bar that in no way could be said to resemble anything like a bar in Ireland and is like thousands across the world outside the green isle. We were there for a beer and also had some chips (French fries). The latter were OK and the beers good and, needless to say, very cold. We sat outside and the views of the harbour helped with the enjoyment and were more interesting than watching England lose again at the cricket that dominated all the many TV screens.
