We went out to celebrate my new job. The evening started with delicious cocktails in Hotel DeBretts round the corner, and we mae our way to O'Connells for 8.30 - our booked time. When we arrived our booking was acknowledged and we were shepherded to a table in the snug bar area. We were then left for about ten mins, before the bartender took a drinks order from us (we wondered whether we should order at the bar it took so long- my boyfriend went up to the bar to order and was told they would take our order from the table). We both had a very well made cocktail but now 25 mins after we arrived we still weren't seated, and hadn't been given the menu. At 9.15 we were finally taken to the table, and given the menus. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and answered the questions we had well, and in a non-patronising way. Bread was served quickly after ordering, and our starters not much later. HOwever we'd been there for an hour and a half by the time we got our starters. Luckliy the lovely wine we'd ordered was keeping the evening running smoothly. Our starters arrived - mine was an entire plate of beautiful carpaccio of beef, with parmesan and rocket. The saltiness of the parmesan, and the pepperyness of the rocket perfectly enhanced the tender beef. My boyfriend had some delicious scallops. We were still enjoying the evening, and really looking forward to the arrival of our main courses. These however took an age to get to us - our mains being served at 10.15. Still the wine was keeping the evening running smoothly. I happened to mention to the waitress that it must be a pretty busy night - they were still sitting diners at 10.30, and she replied "no, this is a bit quieter than normal" so that evidently wasn't why the food took so long.
At the time we reflected on a lovely evening, but the following day realised that despite the food being tasty (but a certifiable gourmet experience) and the wine delicious, and the waitress knowledgeable actually that was a bloody long time to wait for our food (I had the famous special of braised rabbit and pasta). I would recommend it, but not if you're in a hurry, or with anyone impatient!
