We were looking for somewhere for the 5 of us to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday. We had been a few times before and enjoyed the food and atmosphere and particularly wanted a restaurant where it felt good to 'dress up' for the evening. Close comparisons were Number 5 (menu too limited), O'Connell Street Bistro (only just been there - also v good). Merediths and French Cafe out of our price range!
Slightly disappointed with the table when we arrived - very close to the serving station and rather in the corridor - but a quick word with the Maitre D, Jeremiah, took us round the corner to a table that we all much preferred.
Jeremiah and his staff went out of their way all evening to make my daughter feel special. We received attentive and balanced advice about menu and wine choices, were offered samples of wine before committing to bottles and even extra portions of entree and side dishes so that everyone got to sample the excellent food.
We could all have chosen several of the menu options for each course. Difficult to pull favourites out of our selection, as it was all excellent, but Beef tartare with crisp egg yolk and the Fragrant black tuna, edamame, squid and crisp watermelon were stand-outs.
The restaurant was full and rather lively, with several large groups in, but our position allowed us to feel included in the ambiance without being overwhelmed by the noise.
The timing of the courses suited us perfectly, neither hurried nor delayed. I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant where, every time I wanted something and looked up, one of the staff was there, ready to help, but without the intrusion of unnecessary interruption.
Dessert came with my daughter's plate nicely decorated and delivered accompanied by a chorus of Happy Birthday from the restaurant staff.
All in all, the best meal out we have had for a long time, made particularly special by the impeccable service of Jeremiah and his staff.

We rang for a seat with just a few minutes notice on a busy Saturday night. All top notch city restaurants were full but Cibo could get us in at 8:30.

It was excellent. Buzzy, perhaps too noisy (but we are old), certainly trendy. Upon arrival we were ushered to the bar with no indication of how long our table would be. But it didn't take long.

One entree superb, my pork belly dried out, but flavours wonderful.

An Otago Pinot Noir from the reasonable end of the wine list was magic and went well with all dishes.

Both mains were rave worthy.

We didn't eat lunch but still after entree and main we were full which is a real pity because the dessert list was so tempting.

This restaurant is the real deal and if there is a better one in Auckland I want to know about it.

Highly recommended.

The food is fabulous in style, taste and presentation. All our dishes had a different twist to them and were delicious, with generous portions. The service was immaculate, the staff are attentive and highly trained to be polite but efficient. The decor and ambience are fun, interesting. It isn't a cheap evening out but you do get value for money. Lovely happy birthday chorus from the wait staff if you own up to having a birthday.

My family have been loyal customers of Cibo for many years- Why? Well, to put it simply, Cibo never disappoints! Friendly, efficient and knowledgable service, superb food and an excellent and extensive wine list! Parking is plentiful, behind Cibo, in the carpark or on the road.

There are, in our opinion, no other restaurants in Auckland, that offer such consistently good food with perfectly balanced flavours. Too many other places spoil their dishes by adding far too many discordant flavours and portion sizes at other establishments are becoming alarmingly reminiscent of Nouvelle Cuisine days,( which left one hungry after a 3 course meal!) That is not something you need to worry about at Cibo, their portions are perfect. If anyone is particularly hungry, there is a melt in the mouth 400 gram Beef steak and for those who prefer a small dessert there are some delicious small plates of sweet treats.

Jeremy, Jeremiah and the rest of the front of house team will look after you in style, while Kate and her kitchen team will tantalise your taste buds and deliver beautifully presented food. If you have any dietary restrictions just let your waiter know, as they are always happy to help out ( phone 24 hrs beforehand and great gluten free doughnuts can be produced.) If you are in doubt about wine choices, don't hesitate to ask, as the perfect match will be suggested for you- we have found some new favourite wines following suggestions from Jeremy and Jeremiah.

The menu has just changed and my all time favourite Duck starter is back- a gorgeous pancake roll served with juicy scallop and an Asian caramelised sauce. My Venison with beet root as a main was a beautiful combination and cooked to perfection- rare as ordered. If fish is your favourite then Cibo has several fabulous fish dishes- my husband had a lovely Chicken Liver Parfait, then the famous Cibo Fish and chips which is always superb with its fresh tartar sauce. Friends dining with us at the weekend, had the Salted Prawns and Whitebait omelet respectively, as starters, which they thought were the best they had ever had, followed by John Dory and Tuna, which again they raved about. So both Surf and Turf are both well covered at Cibo! Our sides of Asparagus and Salad were fresh and tasty, a perfect accompaniment for our meals. Due to an early morning start for cycling, we opted out of desserts, but were treated to some gorgeous Passion fruit marshmallows which were Devine!

In this annoying age where so many new restaurants don't take bookings, you will be pleased to hear that Cibo does!

Thanks to all the team for looking after us so well - I don't know why we bother trying anywhere else, as no one in Auckland does it ( ie food, wine service and ambience ) better than Cibo!

My husband and I dined here for lunch for a special occasion.
The food was innovative and tasty and unlike other resteraunts in Cibos league, the portions were generous.
The service overall was excellent - the one (very small) thing that would have been better would have been being offered another drink when my glass was empty.
Very expensive meal but we both somehow managed 3 courses with wine with each course and a champagne aperitif.
This was not just a meal but an experience.
Would definitely recommend and hope to return for another special occasion.
