“Excellent trip to Hobbiton”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

Today I took a trip with Bush-Beach from Auckland central to Hobbiton (Matamata), the drive of just over two hours was over in a flash courtesy of the scenic route taken by our very informative tour guide and driver (Dion). On arrival at our destination, Hobbiton (the movie set where I understand most of the "Shire" scenes were shot from "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit") we were very efficiently hooked up with the very first site tour of the day. This proved to be a huge advantage if you are a photographer and you want to shoot scenes without another tour group cluttering the background. A quick and very scenic/entertaining bus drive takes you to the actual location from where a walking tour is conducted. The walking tour of the "Hobbit holes" takes around two hours an was very professionally conducted by our guide (Toby) who provided some interesting facts about the history surrounding the location and the movie. A quick farewell drink at the "Green Dragon Inn" saw the end of the walking tour and off in the bus again to the main area where a lovely lunch was provided for our tour group arranged by Bush-Beach. Another scenic drive along a different route back to Auckland with a couple of worthwhile stops followed which saw me back at my hotel on time as per the schedule. I can highly recommend this tour even if you are not a Lord of the Rings fan. Bush and Beach thank you very much for the very professional manner in which the tour was conducted, from the painless telephonic booking, spotless vehicle, prompt on time service and very professional guide, you certainly got my vote.

“Top Notch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013

Had a wonderful day with Wayne doing the Best of Both Worlds Tour which was a morning Auckland city and surrounds tour and in the afternoon a tour to the Waitekere Ranges and black sand beaches on the Tasman west coast.

Wayne was a great driver/guide and really made the day even more enjoyable on top of the glorious weather and stunning sights.

On my experience Bush and Beach deserve their very high rating and I would book again with them in a heartbeat.

“Excellent day out, professionally put together”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

We had pre-booked a tour for Hobbiton in the UK before our trip here in New Zealand. We received a phone call to our hotel room from the company the day before confirming the tour was still on, where and when they would pick us up. Great service and puts you at ease knowing everything is confirmed.

As stated the mini bus was there early and after collecting other guests from other hotels we set off. Our tour was small, 11 people and the driver, Wayne. He was a very nice chap, talked us through the area we were driving past and some history and information about Auckland which was also good. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and what he was talking about. We stopped off en route at an excellent cafe in Cambridge for breakfast before continuing on to Hobbiton.

On arrival we picked up out guide who was 83 year old Eric. He was also a sound chap who knew his stuff with regards to Hobbiton, the set, the farm and it's history. The tour didn't feel rushed inside and we had plenty of photo opportunities and he provided information at most of the hobbit holes we came too. Lunch, which was part of the package, was in the Green Dragon. On arrival you are provided with a free drink, choice of alcoholic ales or nonalcoholic ginger beer. We then sat down to a great lunch. It was fab to actually sit and eat in the long room where the dwarfs and Bilbo ate during the meal in the Hobbit movie. It was actually filmed in the tavern and not in Bilbos house albeit it was set there.

After lunch up to the shop before the drive home. Wayne's driving was so smooth the entire bus fell asleep (not Wayne though). We were all dropped off at our hotels for 15:30 after being picked up at 06:35. Great day which was very professionally organised and put together, I would recommend a tour run by Bush and Beach to people visiting the area.

Hi there,
Thank you for your great review of our Hobbiton Express Tour!

This tour is a must for The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings fans and (although it is not possible on every tour) having lunch at The Green Dragon is a special treat - and the perfect spot for a free cider or ale!

We have scheduled this tour to get everyone back to the city before a majority of Auckland traffic starts, and still gives you a bit of the afternoon to explore Auckland!

We hope to see you again next time you are in Auckland
Thanks
Krystle

“Beautiful sights ...delightful day with Bush and Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2013

Our group of four took a day long tour with Bush and Beach. Dawn was our guide and we were joined by one other person. This day was fabulous! Among other places, we traveled to the Waitakere Ranges, Karekare black sand beach and the rainforest. The lunch from the bakery was very nice. Dawn was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. The sights were breathtaking. Great day!

“Excellent Tour, Friendly guides, Beautiful scenery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2013

I took the Busch and Beach City tour in the morning and the Bush tour in the afternoon. Wayne was my guide for the morning tour. He was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly. The tour took us all over the city and allowed us to get out at various locations for picture opportunities. The landscape around Auckland is amazing thanks to the 58 volcanoes the city encompasses. Wayne slowed when possible if he saw one of us was trying to take a picture. He answered all the questions we asked to the best of his knowledge (which was extensive). We stopped at a delicious coffee shop for break at one point. Both the coffee and the pastries were outstanding.

The afternoon tour was led by Dawn and John?. We stopped for a bite to eat at a great little pastry shop and then headed into the hills. Again, the guides were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They didn't just drop us off at places to take pictures...they gave a history of the area, led us through rain forests to see Kaouri trees, a visitor center for an amazing view of the surrounding landscape, to a black sand beach where we had tea, and to two amazing waterfalls.
