“Great place for coffee / lunch - with the side trip off of Queen St”

Actually passed this because we had to park a bit off the way when going to Queen St. - so you do need to be intentional to go there.

Decided to grab coffee and a baguette for lunch (really brunch). And a pastry. Fantastic!! We talked about this place for a number of days afterwards, wishing we could eat there each day vs. the preponderance of meat pies we were facing travelling on the road.

In a world of fast food, and bland breakfasts, the fare at Giles Luncheonette brings me back over and over... Little touches make the difference. It's pristinely clean. The food is thoughtful and flavoursome. The salt on the tables is a cut above and the coffee supreme (in name and taste!). Truth be told, I struggle to go beyond their eggs. Peter does the most sublime poached eggs in the universe, and I'm a fan of his mother-in-law's indian eggs too. And just when I think I can't fit in another bite, a piece of chocolate fudge slice (or two) seem to make their way into my handbag... Blink and you might miss it as you head up Shortland Street - so keep your eyes peeled. It's worth it.
