This was an exceptional evening with my mother and two friends.

The evening starts well with complimentary valet parking and a visit to the public sky deck to take in the views. Then up to the restaurant and cocktails in the lounge to take in the views and swanky atmosphere. Lovely upmarket decor and nice to be in restaurant where you can be heard with lots of soft furnishings.

We ordered three small plates each (and one dessert) which was ideal and were given an amuse bouche to commence and delicious bread. We did order some extra sides as the duck fat roasted potatoes are hard to resist, but really didn't need them. Each plate was delicately prepared and give good variety.

The wine list, mostly New Zealand, is very good and a big plus is that several wines can be by the glass or 400 ml carafe. If you came as a couple you could have 3 different carafes matching three small plates where you might not get through 3 bottles!

Service was professional and attentive and the spacing between the courses ideal.

This is definitely in the top five of fine dining restaurants in Auckland and makes for a special night out. I would highly recommend.

My husband and I tend to shy away from restaurants with great views... often the food is so disappointing. Not the case for The Sugar Club. The food was amazing, as was the service. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would certainly go again for a special occasion. Unlike some, I love the idea of small plates... and although it makes for a pricey meal, it's well worth it if you're a bit of a foodie and like to try a variety of dishes.

We had heard about The Sugar Club and were pleased to get a booking. We arrived with no pre expectations especially as we'd heard about "lots of little plates!!" We had eaten at another restaurant a while back that did similar things and were very underwhelmed after that particular experience.. The Sugar Club maître d was professional, overseas trained, young and knowledgable. He advised that we choose three different dishes each. I cannot remember ever eating paua at a restaurant before but we both chose this dish to start. It was amazing. Thinly sliced paua on mash with a side of something delicious. The dish was gorgeous. My scallops to follow were delish and the duck, OMG, was just something so scrummy I can't describe it. My husband's lamb dish was tasty but probably needed another minute's cooking. He loved the tuna. Our desserts was delicious too and we were FULL!! No skinny little plates of food here, just good entrée sizes for all the four dishes we chose. The bread starter and little tasty things compliments of the chef were lovely. The food was exceptional. The ambiance is OK. The restaurant doesn't revolve like Orbit but the view of the Harbour is excellent. The party on the other side of the trellis were noisy but no problem. Going to the loos you pass the bungy jumping area, a bit tacky but OK. So, food EXCEPTIONAL, service great (our blonde waitress was a little too touchy feely and she dropped a stack of plates in front of us but hey, accidents happen) but overall an extremely pleasant experience. We even taught the barrista to make a Jamaican Coffee (yes, we are old school and my husband loves this). It came in a small cup but we advised this should be in a large glass etc etc. He was pleased to know about it. Thanks Sugar Club, next time we will bring visitors to enjoy the splendid food.

We were really looking forward to trying this place out. The menu looked promising and we both ordered several plates and sides but everything was underwhelming except for the lamb. Perhaps it was just an off night because the other reviews rave about the food here. Our server was sweet and knowledgable and we ordered all the popular dishes on the menu. The views were stunning but the food left us unsatisfied. Everything else in Auckland and our stay at Skycity was absolutely perfect.
