“A cute little New York style deli in Auckland”

Came here initially for some coffee but ended up ordering the 3-Way Combo dessert suggested by our waitress, what a great idea to sample such delightful sweets!

The waitstaff are so attentive without being intrusive and our coffees are constantly filled up :-)

Good job, Federal Delicatessen and what a fresh addition to the dinning scene in Auckland.

“OMG the pancakes !!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2014

Went for lunch here on Easter Saturday. It is a bit of a copy of a NY deli, both in decor and menu. The eldest had a hot dog, small but awesomely good apparently, it was only $6.50 and not that big but at lunch it didn't matter. Our youngest had the blueberry pancakes which were on a special board - OMG - they were fantastic. I had a trio of cakes, banoffee pie, NY cheesecake and the cherry choc pie, all of which were great. We had wine which is served in a little glass tumbler, the boys had root beer and cherry cola. We got a bowl of chips for the 4 of us.

We went back here for our last night in NZ, our youngest asked, no pleaded, begged, cajoled, threatened our waiter Jack for some pancakes for dessert but unfortunately he couldn't provide, but he did ask for us. The staff are great, Jack, I'm sorry, but you gotta give the boy credit :-)

This is a place for a romantic meal, its noisy, the buzz from the kitchen helps with the atmosphere. Would I go again, yep you bet !!!

“Great ambience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2014 via mobile

The decor, colours, staff were excellent. Loved the idea of having the open kitchen in front and the bar at the back. The food was excellent with quality meats. The staff were quick and very responsive. We almost died after having the banana cream something pastry:) one of a kind... Loved it. Recommended after having an insipid tour of the sky tower next door!!

“Very good deli”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2014

This was a good lunch stop, right outside Sky Tower. The pastrami sandwich was just what I expected from a New York style deli...ok, maybe it's not Katz's but it's close. Excellent dill pickles. The weak link was the "matzo ball" soup, which isn't made with matzo balls - huh? Weird little bagel dumplings, I guess they were - not sure why, it's not that hard to make the real thing.

“Great breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2014

We were staying at a hotel nearby and don't like buffets so we dropped in for bagels. Service was friendly and efficient, bagels were great and overall pretty cheap compared to what we would have paid at our hotel. The coffee is not great (not surprising for an American style diner) so go to Depot next door for coffee which is excellent.
