We stopped by initially just for coffee but as soon as we saw the menu we were eager to make it our lunch. Delicious authentically spiced meals: we shared superb Prawn Cakes with a Sticky Pork & Mango Salad. The flavours were absolutely amazing! Good service & great atmosphere.

The worst restaurant experience that I have ever ever had – Mekong Baby on Ponsonby road, Auckland. The attitude of the restaurant manager, waiter and owner were so rude, aggressive, unprofessional and arrogant. I just couldn’t believe how we all have been treated. I had been there once before with friends and find the ambient and decor of the restaurant rather chic and modern, but the service was sort of hit and missed. However, the revisited experience last night was an absolutely HORROR!! There were 12 of us. 5 people want to go for A La Carte. 7 people want to try their degustation menu which is $60 per person. On their printed menu, it stated minimum 4 people and NOTHING ELSE! The waiter who took our order was so unprofessional and rather rude telling us that we can’t have their degustation menu because it needs to be the entire table. So we compromised the situation and suggested him that we could split our big table into two groups. One side is having A La Carte and the other side is having degustation menu. Sound reasonable, right? But he said we still can’t do that without a satisfactory explanation. He called the restaurant manager (female) who was so cocky yet unfriendly and again told us that we can’t have the degustation menu without a satisfactory explanation. Then she started accusing my friend. This is so terrible! Remember, their menu didn’t say it has to be the whole table!!!! The whole situation is getting ridiculous and out of hand. I felt that we were all being BULLY and intimidated! Then the restaurant owner (male) came to us with that rude, arrogant and aggressive attitude and told us the same thing. He said we all have to leave or he will call the police!!! Wow… what on earth has just happened? Where these people learn about hospitality and manners?? We are the customers who want to have a good dinning experience with friends. But we were inappropriately abused and threaten by their misleading menu. I felt so disappointed with the manager and owner who could not resolved this to our satisfaction. Naturally, we all choose to go elsewhere. Who wouldn’t? Please don’t waste your money on this restaurant. Unless you enjoy being bullied and humiliated. There are plenty of other great eats on Pönsonby road and most have courteous and friendly manager and owner.

Unprofessional service, awful acoustics but the food... My god the food is good! If this place was in a major city and got it's service up to international standards it would have a Michelin star in an instant. Even the wine list is excellent by Auckland standards, with some wines that work brilliantly with the food; e.g. dry Muscat from Languedoc and Te Mata's Gamay (ask for it chilled). However the tea is even better, perfectly matching the incredible fresh spices and herbs of the food.

I have just had the most delicious meal at Mekong Baby. The atmosphere is amazing, the decor incredibly evocative and the food was sublime. The restaurant was bustling but the service was fast and friendly and I would certainly return as often as possible...a great vibe

I was worried as you cannot make bookings here and we went on a Friday night but we did not have to wait for a table. Sat outside on a lovely balmy night. Efficient and friendly service. We shared multiple dishes amongst 4 of us. All the food was fabulous including the favourite at the table - the pork belly.
