A short walk from the city, Buttermilk Cafe is at one end of what I assume is an old market building that has been converted into a shopping alley. The cafe itself is high-ceilinged and unsentimental, but nonetheless welcoming and it does have a certain atmosphere. Tables are close to each other, but it works. Menu feels more like breakfast/brunch than lunch, but this is evidently the target clientele. Food is good, although arguably over-priced for the portion sizes. Coffees, teas and cake are excellent. Fresh juices seem to be a speciality - and deservedly so. There were plenty of staff on hand when we visited and they generally did a good job. The end effect is a great cafe with good food - although expect to pay accordingly.
