The island is a perfect place to be if you have a spare half a day in Auckland region. It doesn't take too long to walk it throughout but the scenery (even if you do not like the birds) is pretty cool: rocky coastline, nice hills and fresh forests. The birds though are all over the place: out of 8 species mentioned in the official guide we encountered 13, and it was pretty exciting to watch them in their natural habitat and in close up. There's a lighthouse and souvenir shop but no cafes or restaurants as it's a natural reserve. Make sure you use a toilet next to the wharf as the're only 2 of them in the whole island; unless you want to be memorized by destroying the habitat for endangered species by taking a piss in a company of few kiwis left over there.
