This is a great conservation effort by the Department of Conservation. They have restored a island that was mostly pastures back to native bush. In the process bringing back the native populations of birds. With stringent pest and predator control the bird populations of many native species that are considered endangered have been brought back to noticeable numbers. Now you can visit the island and take pictures or just view the birds in there native habitat. There is a unmanned light house and a place to eat. Well worth the visit if you like birds and native bush walks.
