Description: Libertine in Freemans Bay, is anything but conformist. Housed in what is arguably one of the most dramatically beautiful parts of Victoria Park Market, the building has a 100-year history that started as a power station. Being incredibly sympathetic to the building's history has clearly been important to the new residents; design details like raising some of the floor area have connected the space seamlessly to its outdoor surroundings. A play on a term used to describe a person devoid of moral restraints and who values physical pleasures, the Libertine offers what it describes as "sinfully good, free-thinking food and drink" in inspired surroundings.

Interesting setting at Victoria Park with an outdoor area and several different indoor settings. Good range of cocktails and a large menu which seems to change regularly. To food is interesting and delicious and service is attentive.

My husband and I visited Libertine for dinner a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the food and service. We too were on a Grab-one voucher, however received excellent service all night long from Stephaine. She was helpful, always explaining what dishes were and assisting our selection. Our two cocktails (Briar Bramble and Libertino) were excellent. We started with the spiced lamb and the beef short rib - both were outstanding. For main courses we had the market fish which was a seafood stew sort of thing, full of seafood. Also the beef churrasco - different cuts of beef cooked different ways. While these were delicious, we decided the small plates were the best and getting more small plates, trying the taco etc will be our plan for our next visit.

We decided to take advantage of a GrabOne deal at this restaurant which proved very worthwhile for the $$ spent. Two cocktails, two starters, two mains and two desserts for only $75.00 and the good thing was we were going to Auckland for a few days and booked the restaurant for New Years Eve. They were more than happy to accept the voucher and the service was excellent, casual but friendly and helpful. Good choice of food and all tasted good, hardest choice was what to pick for dessert.

We stumbled on this restaurant walking from the Auckland CBD to Ponsonby and are very glad we gave it a chance. The decor is very up to date - modern, clean, airy and full of 20 and 30 something metrosexuals. But not stuffy or pretentious like many "hipper than thou" places in our hometown of LA. Tapas style dishes allow you to try many different tastes. We did about 8 between the two of us and didn't get any clunkers. They all look as good as they taste. Good, friendly service as well.
