We are so lucky to have the Hauraki Gulf at our door step. Visited Rakino Island for the first time for ages - rented a bach - isloted with a few home comforts - lovely to relax away from it all yet so close to home

I was fortunate to have a family member take me for a boat ride to the gulf. Fishing for red snapper. And if look back the view of Auckland is great.Apparently fishing is best in February.

I personally do not like the city of Auckland very much, being more attracted by the old stones of european cities with their castles and fortifications. This being said, I must admit that the city lies at the heart of a wonderful gulf. Take the ferry to visit the many island. If the weather is sunny, the water takes an incredible blue-green color. There are so many islands that it is impossible to see the open see. Truly a place not to miss if you visit Auckland!

Went on a day return ferry trip to Waiheke Island, through the waters of the Hauraki Gulf. A big adventure for me, a daily routine for Waiheke Islanders going to Auckland for work. I loved passing other boats, the calm seas, approaching Waiheke, wandering Waiheke and returning back to the centre of Auckland again.

Fantastic scenery with numerous islands dotted around the Gulf. Sailing boats, motor yachts, kayaks, and ferries busily taking passengers to the islands. On a beautiful day there is nowhere like it. Climb to the top of the volcanic Rangitoto Island or visit lovely Waiheke Island with its numerous vineyards, stunning beaches or restaurants. If you go to Auckland don't miss it.
