There is always something on here. Some kind of market ... an ice rink ... or suchlike.
Unfortunately the vibe can be spoiled by the very loud Christians who try to get there message across on the weekend evenings.
They use loudspeakers... and never stop.
A great square however!!

Piano Stairs is an interactive installation that is guaranteed to charm kids and kids in adult bodies alike. It makes walking upstairs (or downstairs) an unforgettable musical experience.

This is the largest plaza located centrally in Auckland, framed by the Aotea Centre and the Town Hall. Sometimes programmed in the summer months for festivals and performances. It's hard to miss this one on any Auckland visit.

Been to Aotea Square when there was a major sports promotion and been there when nothing was on. The place is alive when there is an event there and very quiet when there is not. I wouldn't call it a tourist attraction, but there is a little too see, it is clean and well kept and it is a quiet respite in the middle of the CBD.
